It looks very small compared to Araneta.

I kind of hoping for it to be at least the same size of Araneta.

They should just have used the parking space. And make the parking underground. That way they can maximize the space. :D

I believe some parts (or most) of MOA are on reclaimed land, hence, they cannot dig far below.

There is actually a 10-storey carpark building being constructed beside the church. (First 7 floors serves as parking, while the rest are offices) There will also be a bridge connecting this building to the Arena

I hope this arena can attract NBA officials of even FIBA Asia officials to allow us to have future big events like NBA Games and FIBA Asia Basketball Championship

i got this from reliable sources...

the SM Bay City Arena, which can house roughly 15,000 to 16,000 fans, MIGHT be open end of 2011 or early part of 2012.. this is in line with NU's impending hosting of the 2012 75th season of the UAAP..

NU is really serious in their bid for the championship with Eric Altamirano being their head coach and a lot of blue chip players joining the school..

their target is the championship in season 75 in 2012 and winning it in Henry Sy's homecourt, the SM Bay City Arena..

now that would be interesting to watch out for..

Or better yet we can bid for Fiba world championships or at least Fiba Asia or Fiba youth if we have a lot of quality basketball venues.

P3.5 billion is needed to complete Arena, says MOA exec

MANILA, Philippines — For sure, the NBA will only agree to hold a pre-season game in the Philippines if it has a world-class facility.

That’s one reason why officials of the Mall of Asia (MoA) Arena are moving heaven and earth to make sure the modern venue in Pasay City will be fit for kings.

“We’re spending P3.5 billion,” Edgar Tejerero, senior vice president for West Avenue Theatres Corporation said.

The MOA Arena officials are bidding to bring in an NBA exhibition game in October next year in the hopes of giving millions of Filipino fans a chance of a lifetime.

“If the NBA is looking for a home in the Philippines, this will be it,” Tejerero said.

The five-level venue, which opens May next year, can host 16,000 comfortably seating fans and has a full house capacity of 20,000.

All seat levels – Patron, lower box, upper box, general admissions and corporate suites – feature seats with cup holders and each level has at least 20 doors while some levels have retractable seats.

“It is western-designed. Unlike other venues, all ticket-holders, regardless of their ticket levels, will pass on the same gate,” Tejerero said.

“It’s also huge because we have at least 20 doors for the 2nd, 4th and 5th levels. So just imagine the number of securities we have to get. But we’re counting on the Filipinos’ honesty. We’re counting on the fans to be honest enough to sit where they are supposed to sit,” Tejerero said of the venue whose US-based interior designer also designed the Philips Arena in the US, the home of the NBA team Atlanta Hawks.

The corporate suite level has 40 rooms and each room can hold 20 persons. Each room has its own mini-bar, couches, restroom and viewing area.

There will be four dugouts, with hot and cold shower rooms with scoreboards similar to that of FedEx Forum Arena, the home of the Memphis Grizzlies. All members of the media will also have electronic cards which will serve as their passes.

The MOA Arena, which boasts of retractable seats and a 2,000-capacity car park building, is expected to rival the fabled Araneta Coliseum.

Can't blame them really. As other teams are doing it ;)

(i hope at some point we have rules on these, but it won't be happening anytime soon)

One of the best things about this Arena is the parking. Unlike in Araneta where parking is very hard!

It's also very accessible with little to no traffic once you're already in the area. Unlike in Araneta wherein you usually have to pass by the horrendous Edsa traffic.

Of course, you can also go to MoA after the game. Compare that with Gateway mall.
