IN THE hope of strengthening its lineup for the upcoming Universities Athletic Association of the Philippines season, the National University looks to Cebuanos for help as its officials hold a tryout this coming Friday and Saturday at the University of San Carlos gym.
USC Warriors head coach Mike Reyes is helping out the tryouts. The USC women’s team was the last champion of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) before it was removed from Cesafi’s list of events.
“They want a better finish for this year’s UAAP that is why they are extending their search for talents to Cebu,” said Reyes.
The tryouts are open for all high school seniors or freshmen and sophomore college students. The trials tomorrow will start at 9 a.m. and at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
It was 256 years since Malabes can hit a three-point shot.Maybe he's saying "take that Tony Atayde!" after making the basket

Bader has been totally inconsistent with his threes. If you do remember how Bader shot the lights out against Letran in '06 (FilOil-Flying V Invitationals), you would pretty much be impressed as to how he bombed the Knights during that game. And as time went by, he kinda fluctuated and mellowed down. Maybe it's because he's playing for his dad now as opposed to being under the microscope playing for an elite team wherein basketball is a major sport in the country (and we all know that you're gonna get the ire of the whole Lasallian community when you play sub-par).
The problem with the likes of Mangahas and Barua was they were role players from the start and we're still role players when the likes of Casio and Maierhofer left the team.
Mangahas had the potential to become a big-time player but didn't lived up to expectations. He was clanking a lot of outside shots.
Statistically, Barua muffed 16 straight threes at the start of the season before hitting his first one - a game-tying trey that sent the game into OT against UST in the first round.
i don't really buy the role player argument simply because DLSU has had shock troopers that developed into PBA-worthy players.
looking back, it's either Franz Pumaren's system doesn't fit the talents of last year's players... or last year's players weren't talented enough to fit Franz Pumaren's system (or both. so they end up with a scenario where Webb is their best scorer and their young players had to play well for them to win)
