Now Japeth Aguilar prove me wrong again in choosing the smart-gilas.. he was vastly improved and in very good condition in just short amount of time.. the way he played last night is very inspiring to all filipinos.. he played with a lot of heart and intensity as if it was his last game.. maybe it was! since he will never be allowed to join them in the PBA.. but he is a man posses.. he silenced his critics.. look at his shooting! i love the follow-through and the bending of his knees..he knows he have that shot.. For Jason Ballesteros he played with a lot of intentisty.. he never gives up to any play and fight with every possesion.. i love the Block to Kerby Raymundo! reminding the powerade that they can still defend even without Cj.. Ramos!! look at the block to skyrus on the fastbreak! Ramos is taller than Gabe i think and he moves quick enaft to run and block the shot of the guards.. who needs Gabe and Jared?? we have high flying and husstling Mac Baracael.. Dylan shooting is always improving.. and our guards who are very steady.. Barroca. Tiu and Casio..

i hope toroman stays longer with us... well time to pass up the torch but i still feel gilas needs some reinforcements from the pba, they lack some forwards... but so far, i'm satisfied with the development of the team. go smart gilas!

Like Norwood and Dillinger? They will be useful especially when it comes to defending big scoring guards like Rasheim Wright and El Khatib.

yeah i was watching it live and i was behind the bench of powerade... i saw jason and asi standing next to each other while someone from powerade was shooting a freethrow... and yes... i think they are of the same height... both 6'7 or 6'8 perhaps?

they are both 6'7, that's a fact.

what if the americans put in the 2008 Olympic Redeem Team with only 1 practice day vs the best NCAA college players plus 1 import who who'd win the game.... hmmmmm im sure the Redeem Team will win game. this PBA players are on their prime of their career but they wer just manhandled by the much disciplined college boys. Bravo Toroman!!!

man, the redeem team was taken to school by college players during their first scrimmage

We noticed it alright. Even after a good play by Gilas, we can see and and vaguely hear (coz of the loud cheers) Toroman's lecture. All I can say is that, Gilas did something wrong out there that Coach T didn't like, even after a good play. Bloss Nards, if by chance, can I watch the practice of Gilas?

there's a game tonight at 6:30pm at the San Juan Arena, they would test the newly assembeled Philippine Patriots of the ABL who'll be with 2 imports, 6'5 Brandon Powell and 6'10 Jason Dixon.

SMART Gilas was playing like a euro team in Fast Forward!

Noli Eala is envisioning that out of system of Toroman it could develop into a different style by itself in which other countries would soon call the "Filipino Style of Playing" which is both effective and entertaining.

Agweyar 24 points spiked with 3 triples against the PBA's best.... :D

Oh ..."ginto na, naging bato pa" (TRANS. - WTF did I do wrong?) - Lito Alvarez

Can anyone just go and watch? or there a ticket? :)

Sir any chance we can watch that on TV?? i really want see Brandon Powell play..

The likes of Taulava, Pennisi, Seigle and Raymundo of the 07 team has a low probability of improvement (since they are already past 30 that time) but the likes of Yap, Hontiveros, Ritualo, Williams, Norwood, Cagioua and Alapag could have benefited from Toroman's coaching, but such a program really needs time, I don't think the 1 year training period is enough to maximize their talent, but we could have finished on the top 3 and qualified for the Olympics or at least made it to the wildcard, which is more likely.

The Gilas-Powerade game is an eyeopener to the coaches, management and even the players, Talent wise, the PBA still has the edge, but, discipline, training, heart, hustle and passion could trump that on any given day........

I hope this is a wake up call for the BCAP (Basketball Coaches Association of the Philippines), the methods and strategies that they employ had been antiquated a long time ago

This is a wake up call for the PBA players, work ethic and heart has been missing after they've earned their contracts (the Marlou Aquino Syndrome), they stopped progressing and got content with what they are and how they are compensated, imagine if Canaleta and Arwind Santos had the work ethic of the Gilas players? (one evidence would be the poor free throw shooting percentage of a huge number of PBA players)

For the management, yes, you've invested with the players that you signed and playing for the NT could possibly injure your investment (i.e. Yao, Gasol, Nowitzki), but realize, that we are not the NBA, the Philippines is not the flaghip of basketball in Asia, exposing your players in the international game is actually beneficial also for the franchise since the play would gain a lot of skills...

For the Gilas players..work hard, only one slot for Asia at the London Olympics, Iran and China wouldn't give the slot up easily, prepare for the fight of your lives (The PBA games would be a good stint to improve the toughness and psych of the Gilas boys, they will be pushed around and be hurt from the beatings of the PBA players, but that is part pf their training, the punishment to be dished out by the Arboleda's, Taulava's, Pennisi's and De Ocampo's of the league are just small taps compared to the pain to be dished out by the likes of Vroman, Hadadi and Yao.......(Aguilar had silenced his critics in his showing last night, including yours truly, but he,and Giles, needs to hit the weightroom and add a little muscle so they woun't be pushed too much, hustle alone can't help them survive China and Iran, bulk up but don't roid up ala Ali Peek)

I like the discipline that they showed, they barely complained and just keep their heads up and continue playing hard all 48 minutes of the game

For the Fanboys: don't worship too much, get a life :) LOL

expect some changes in the style of play of Talk N Text, they have been getting pointers from Toroman for the last few months. It's a good way for a team to lead a change of ways in the PBA. I know both Ginebra and Purefoods are going to employ some changes based on the efficiency they saw from GILAS.

But on Burger King, well Guiao is a different story.

I was impressed with Smart Gilas' performance against Powerade...after a jittery start...they slowly inched closer before Aguilar and Casio buried back-to-back triples to take the upperhand at the end of the 1st quarter.

I guess their biggest asset is PATIENCE...they didn't panic even if Powerade tried to muscle them early.

They also have KILLER INSTINCT ... they tried to burry Powerade to Coach Yeng's embarassment..too bad JR Cawaling's triple near the end was nullified.

Now we know why Japeth refused to play with Guiao. He could have contributed in Tianjin if he was fielded.

It would have been 101-69 (wow!)...

yup its free as its just a practice game

Thanks chief. Saw you at the game last night, My wife and kid were with me so I did not bother approaching. Plus we were in the lower box. REFRESHING TO SEE A NEW SYSTEM IN PLAY IN PHILIPPINE BASKETBALL.

thanks for the support and to for you and the rest we do appreciate for more your patience as this is a very young team that's composed of youngsters as
there are a lot of improvement that is still to be done. Right now, we want the players to play efficiently as a team, to squeeze out their full potential but at the same time they should not to forget to enjoy the game.

Yeah, i see they are just 30 to 40 percent in their full potential. Tiu for example, can be a pure 1 like Barroca. Casio has shown he can be an effective 2. But we also would want him at 1. Like a manny pacquiao that has both left and right that can KO anyone, the players should play all 5 positions and be excellent at any two positons if possible. For Japeth and CJ,they need to develop a postup presence to free up the middle for slashers like Tiu, Ababou, Ramos, Cawaling. Toroman's system is very good. But like Freddie Roach's philosophy, every battle is different and you need to improve better every time.

i think the gilas squad still gave partida to the powerade team...:D

in my view, gilas is not as sharp and the plays they used in champions cup were not all shown last night..maybe because they were just assembled lately after their stint in their mother leagues..

i would love to see them in london 2012

does anyone know when will coach toroman's contract will expire?

where will he go after that? develop the giants of india? maybe brign back the north korea basketball team? LoL

I think he wants to coach in Serbia
But if like freddie Roach who has been awed by manny, i think if Toroman produces a world class team then he may opt to stay.
