The likes of Taulava, Pennisi, Seigle and Raymundo of the 07 team has a low probability of improvement (since they are already past 30 that time) but the likes of Yap, Hontiveros, Ritualo, Williams, Norwood, Cagioua and Alapag could have benefited from Toroman's coaching, but such a program really needs time, I don't think the 1 year training period is enough to maximize their talent, but we could have finished on the top 3 and qualified for the Olympics or at least made it to the wildcard, which is more likely.
The Gilas-Powerade game is an eyeopener to the coaches, management and even the players, Talent wise, the PBA still has the edge, but, discipline, training, heart, hustle and passion could trump that on any given day........
I hope this is a wake up call for the BCAP (Basketball Coaches Association of the Philippines), the methods and strategies that they employ had been antiquated a long time ago
This is a wake up call for the PBA players, work ethic and heart has been missing after they've earned their contracts (the Marlou Aquino Syndrome), they stopped progressing and got content with what they are and how they are compensated, imagine if Canaleta and Arwind Santos had the work ethic of the Gilas players? (one evidence would be the poor free throw shooting percentage of a huge number of PBA players)
For the management, yes, you've invested with the players that you signed and playing for the NT could possibly injure your investment (i.e. Yao, Gasol, Nowitzki), but realize, that we are not the NBA, the Philippines is not the flaghip of basketball in Asia, exposing your players in the international game is actually beneficial also for the franchise since the play would gain a lot of skills...
For the Gilas players..work hard, only one slot for Asia at the London Olympics, Iran and China wouldn't give the slot up easily, prepare for the fight of your lives (The PBA games would be a good stint to improve the toughness and psych of the Gilas boys, they will be pushed around and be hurt from the beatings of the PBA players, but that is part pf their training, the punishment to be dished out by the Arboleda's, Taulava's, Pennisi's and De Ocampo's of the league are just small taps compared to the pain to be dished out by the likes of Vroman, Hadadi and Yao.......(Aguilar had silenced his critics in his showing last night, including yours truly, but he,and Giles, needs to hit the weightroom and add a little muscle so they woun't be pushed too much, hustle alone can't help them survive China and Iran, bulk up but don't roid up ala Ali Peek)
I like the discipline that they showed, they barely complained and just keep their heads up and continue playing hard all 48 minutes of the game
For the Fanboys: don't worship too much, get a life
