I really hope that lebanon and jordan can work together to produce a joint league, it will help the game in both countries.

I wanna remind you that Historically IRAN was nothing in basketball and the rank u have now is since 2 years , so your History in Basketball is 2 yearsonly : simply u don't have History at all .

Not true. We were always a 2nd rate Asian team finishing in 4th to 7th position during Asia Championships. Much better than your sorry team.

Here's the official Asian ranking.

1. China
2. Korea
3. Iran
4. Pilipins
5. Taiwan
6. Japan
7. Hong Kong
8. Jordan
9. Lebanon
10. Indonesia
11. India

This list includes a big emphasis on youth building, how the youth program is doing. How many players made it to their respectable league and national team.

there are no sports clubs or academies in the Philippines like the ones in the Middle East. we do have a number of collegiate leagues where some players play in our D-League (PBL) during the off-season.

while youth development is strictly regional, certain Manila-based schools have the resources to scout talent not just around the islands... but they do have connections worldwide, scouting for young players with Filipino lineage. i can think of 3 to 5 schools that can afford to send their basketball team to train abroad.

kerdito i will ignore your posts. because you will answer me back, and try to get the final word. we wont reach anywhere.

I will discuss basketball schools. Lebanon produced fadi el khatib and rony fahed. I would place lebanon 8th after the list I made.

I hope we discuss the schools. and nothing else.

we have produced Walid Doumyati ( won the best Point Guard award in Fiba Asia 2001) Elie Mchantaf was always one of the best Scorers, Ali Mahmoud, and now Ahmad Ibrahim, Mustapha Akkari, Vincent Khoury, Tarek Dagher, Tarek Mereebi, well wait till these players would get what they deserve and you'll see what they can do;)

yea and when they did earlier they lost to Lebanese Sagess when Lebanese Basketball was rising ( I can't say anything about earlier than that since Lebanon was not on the Asian Basketball Map before 1996-1997 when Riyadi were 3rd in Asia)

You know that's not he best club in China..
And CBA teams have improved year by year..

PS:I remember Aoshen won this tournament before, but that' also many years ago..

Hello, wana put my 5 cents :D

Usually I don't read Asian forum, but somehow today I decided to look through it ;)

Firstly I noticed that Lebanon and Jordan memberes of this forum seems to be whinners :p Spaming the same-idea posts in all threads is annoying...

Ok, back to topic. IMHO fadiserhal said many true ideas about Asian basketball schools:
<...> was clear that Asia doesn't have basketball school, <...>
the problem with the Asian player is his need to copy all the NBA players without creating our own style!
What makes Europe so dominating in Basketball? <...> because Europe's basketball is more into the game than the NBA!
Only untill we are able to create our own playing style, our own system, our own real SChools! then and only then an Asian team can make it to the World Cup finals!<...>

Historically I can't see any success of Asian schools in the international championships. Even China has developed only recently, mainly because of Yao and Kazlauskas, who made a big impact on them. If I'm not mistaken, he met big differencies of schools (CHN-LTU), and the main one - playing brainless... And still, a mounth ago China managed to win only one time out of five against Lithuania's second team... and to do so they needed referies badly...

Schools doesn't grow fast, but they need a boost! Look at Lithuania's case - we had a boost by winning '37 and '39 EC, later being ocupied for 50 years, but basketball school started developing. Now we have many bbl schools around the country, and a huge interest in sport from majority of ppl.

It's difficult to rank Asian "basketball schools", so, imho, to would be fair enough to stick on official FIBA ranking. It represents only 8 years, but for Asia it's enough.

9. China CHN 254.7 -3.0
21. Iran IRI 89.1 15.0
24. Lebanon LIB 63.0 -7.5
26. Korea KOR 43.8 -5.7
27. Qatar QAT 39.8 0.0
32. Japan JPN 32.1 -1.2
37. Kazakhstan KAZ 20.8 3.0
39. Jordan JOR 19.5 9.0

P.S. depending on so much whinning here, I thought Jordan is higher, but ... results are results...
P.P.S. TheShot gave Men/Women combined rankings, I prefer only men, but still, both rankings are quite close to each over ;)

is CJ Giles a Philippino guy?

no. he could be our version of Jackson Vroman/Rashiem Wright in 2011. CJ Giles is not a PBA import, he was brought in to reinforce our other National Team (Smart Gilas) in that Champion's Cup.
