I'm hoping that B-meg should also replace their import Clif Brown right now...I don't think he's the RIGHT import for the reigning Phil. Cup champion!!!

They got a rebounding/hustle import, which I guess, they already have, their local players that can do that every given night(Reavis, Pingris, Rico M.).
The coaching staff should decide now, Brown is good in securing rebounds and some hustle points, but not that great offensively...this really showed in their game against the TNT.

Barrios stepped on too many toes?

During interviews with top PBA officials on Wednesday, all of whom requested not to be identified because no official decision has been made, Barrios was described as having made decisions that appeared to favor one team to the detriment of another.Philippine Basketball Association Commissioner Renauld “Sonny” Barrios have reportedly stepped on too many toes during his three-year stint as head of the country’s richest and biggest sports league prompting the powerful board of directors to finally replace him.

Although no official announcement has been made, Barrios is expected to be given the door at the end of the current PBA Fiesta Cup and will be replaced by lawyer Chito Salud, son of former commissioner Rudy Salud who presided over the PBA during some of its peak years from 1988-1992.

During interviews with top PBA officials on Wednesday, all of whom requested not to be identified because no official decision has been made, Barrios was described as having made decisions that appeared to favor one team to the detriment of another.

“A lot of team owners and governors are clamoring for change,” said one source privy to PBA discussions. “The board could have done it last year, but decided to give the commissioner an extension.”

Barrios was initially made officer-in-charge following the resignation of Noli Eala and after a stalemate occurred in the heated debate over who would succeed Eala.

Barrios earned the board’s trust and subsequently was officially named the league’s seventh commissioner.

But his stint was riddled with controversies.

One of which was his reported meeting with Sta. Lucia team owner Exequiel Robles while the PBA Philippine Cup finals was going on between Sta. Lucia and Purefoods.

It was reportedly after this meeting that a Flagrant Foul 1 on James Yap was upgraded to FF 2 causing Yap’s suspension for one game.

He also had some basketball decisions that irritated several team officials, including the one when he allowed Talk ’N Text to play against San Miguel Beer in the previous Philippine Cup despite bringing the wrong set of uniform that delayed the game for two hours.

Likewise, some officials were displeased with the way he handled the controversial Talk ’N Text walkout against Barangay Ginebra during the Philippine Cup.

“The PBA has to move forward further, right now we are down. The officiating is down, and even the gate attendance is down. So these are crucial things that the board needs to consider,” the source said.

Another source who is privy to the situation said that Barrios will be evaluated after the season. However, the source said he doubts if the board will give Barrios one more year, saying: “I don’t think he’ll be extended.”

Former Deputy PBA commissioner Tommy Manotoc, however, defended Barrios.

He said that since the departure of Leo Prieto, the PBA”s first commissioner, the office has lost its independence.

He said the commissioner has fallen victim to the whims and fancies of the board members.

“What they should do is give the commissioner a free hand on everything related to running the league,” said Manotoc who claimed that when he was deputy head of the league, he was given a free hand although he said that was because he was perceived to be powerful

right on to mr. manotoc absolutely right:cool:

If this is the case then, who can fire the board?:D

This scenario is similar to some country elsewhere that even though you replace the president, the ones giving the blessings for the next president are still there.

Correct me if Im wrong, but i think during Eala's term he was the one pressing the Board and was not a puppet to anyone of them. Which is the kind of leadership that the PBA needs. Someone who has vision and not afraid to make decisions.

And during the height of his leagal issues, the board found a reason to take him out.

Patricia Hizon's Locker Room:

It's now finally being officially offered.

Negotiations are currently underway for a trade which will be the CENTER of attraction in the next coming days.

A team trying to lick its wounds is offering their tried and tested, solid center.
Clue: They can't just sharpen their claws on a rock

The other team is looking at the pros and cons of having to give up one of their bigs. They've got two candidates. Both are younger, with a lot more years ahead. But only one will be traded out.
Clue: To stay on the throne, they might have to give up one who can soar, or one who has been BILLeted on the bench often times too long.

Wild guess:
Asi Taulava -rock

for

JC Intal/Ronald Tubid - soar
or Billy Mamaril - BILL

I think the one who soar is Enrico. He's a former king eagle. And is a bigman. The choices are just big man. hehe

i miss the angas factor of E-Vill when he's still with red bull. when he got traded to SMB, his angas factor was gone. hope if ever he'll traded to coke, his angas factor will be back and his game back. it seems it loss

simply because he is no longer the primary offensive choice in his team and his game has stagnated since he was traded to SMB.

Enrico Villanueva is one good example of a guy who is in his prime performs well and traded to a different team. Some guys are never been the same after been traded but normally we see it in over the hill guys or in 30's. While Villanueva isn't why he is much comfortable playing in red bull he had a difficult time palying 3rd and 4th option in the 5 on the floor remeber in the lineup of the floor of SMC teams. Much same case of Rich Alvarez were he become a good role player in shell. Got bumped in then overloaded Alaska. Slowly recovered in Red Bull avearging double didgits in ne conf and again struggled in smc teams.:D

It is not their fault that their teams tend to fold up.

I'm a BGK fan but i dont get it:confused: (Asi rumor trade) are they (BGK)just trying to get more popular by getting "aging":D superstars or they probably trying to match up with TNT & SMB lineup

forget about it.
the only thing left in rico's game is angas. unless he gets the more touches and options in their offense.

Still waiting for the day when Rico would pull someone via the leg to the middle of the court.....

Definitely, Red Bull is the PBA's version of a farm league, where discards and aspiring superstars pad their stats....
