Well it destroys Gilas' purpose to develop young but talented players in preparation for the 2011 Asian Championships but yeah we need a mature player with boys, I do think Williams can fill the void in that department.

Asi could still be an asset for Gilas if ever he joins. He'll bring in experience, toughness and leadership for the young ones. If bigman is what Coach T wants then he'll have it with Asi + 1 Naturalized player. :)

well, things happen for some reasons. in the end, kahit sino na basta talagang makakatulong sa 2010 (trans. we will get a medal in 2010).

right you are neo...there's so much to be done to be on this situation.greggy for me is just ok for the asiad...but after him, who else...japeth???just an opinion bro...and thanks...im just a newbie here...but its fun...

ur opinion is anchored on a sound hypothesis. its really tough for that to happen but in case it will happen, i will repost ur post so we would remember that u inferred on it first ;).

Asi can still help the team for the Asiad.Imagine:

Slaughter 7'0"
Vucicevic 6'10"
Aguilar 6'10"
Taulava 6'9"
Ballesteros 6'8"

With this frontile we are too small compare to other Asian bigs.We can use Kelly at the 3 spot.

it's a longshot...

thanks man.hehehe.its really gonna be a long shot.but who knows...

it may not be through sta. lucia/meralco route...maybe on a different path taken...but still to make Asi available for the Asiad.

but of course, this should be predicated on the absence of a naturalized player.

Jong Uichico, the Barangay Ginebra coach, was at the press box of the Araneta Coliseum Sunday night watching the Talk ‘N Text-Coca-Cola game.

Every now and then, he’d shake his head in marvel at a spinning move made by Tropang Texters forward Kelly Williams. Or he’d bolt upright in his seat at an explosive foray essayed by one of the many Talk ’N Text stars.

“Can you outscore that team?” he was asked. Uichico shook his head.

“Can you defend against them?” came the next question. Uichico shrugged his shoulders.

“But it’s just a matter of time,” he mumbled cryptically, refusing to elaborate further.

well, some fans have pointing to this statement as a cue that bgk is working for another trade. well, the asi to bgk trade rumor is still alive and there are still other "superstar big man" being rumored to be trade targets of bgk.

crazy... I wonder where Taulava would go..hehe. everybody's looking at Talk N Text, seems like another arms race is going to happen. What about SMB, aren't they joining the tug-of-war for Taulava's services?

Barrios stepped on too many toes?
By WAYLON GALVEZ
June 2, 2010, 5:13pm

During interviews with top PBA officials on Wednesday, all of whom requested not to be identified because no official decision has been made, Barrios was described as having made decisions that appeared to favor one team to the detriment of another.Philippine Basketball Association Commissioner Renauld “Sonny” Barrios have reportedly stepped on too many toes during his three-year stint as head of the country’s richest and biggest sports league prompting the powerful board of directors to finally replace him.

Although no official announcement has been made, Barrios is expected to be given the door at the end of the current PBA Fiesta Cup and will be replaced by lawyer Chito Salud, son of former commissioner Rudy Salud who presided over the PBA during some of its peak years from 1988-1992.

During interviews with top PBA officials on Wednesday, all of whom requested not to be identified because no official decision has been made, Barrios was described as having made decisions that appeared to favor one team to the detriment of another.

“A lot of team owners and governors are clamoring for change,” said one source privy to PBA discussions. “The board could have done it last year, but decided to give the commissioner an extension.”

Barrios was initially made officer-in-charge following the resignation of Noli Eala and after a stalemate occurred in the heated debate over who would succeed Eala.

Barrios earned the board’s trust and subsequently was officially named the league’s seventh commissioner.

But his stint was riddled with controversies.

One of which was his reported meeting with Sta. Lucia team owner Exequiel Robles while the PBA Philippine Cup finals was going on between Sta. Lucia and Purefoods.

It was reportedly after this meeting that a Flagrant Foul 1 on James Yap was upgraded to FF 2 causing Yap’s suspension for one game.

He also had some basketball decisions that irritated several team officials, including the one when he allowed Talk ’N Text to play against San Miguel Beer in the previous Philippine Cup despite bringing the wrong set of uniform that delayed the game for two hours.

Likewise, some officials were displeased with the way he handled the controversial Talk ’N Text walkout against Barangay Ginebra during the Philippine Cup.

“The PBA has to move forward further, right now we are down. The officiating is down, and even the gate attendance is down. So these are crucial things that the board needs to consider,” the source said.

Another source who is privy to the situation said that Barrios will be evaluated after the season. However, the source said he doubts if the board will give Barrios one more year, saying: “I don’t think he’ll be extended.”

Former Deputy PBA commissioner Tommy Manotoc, however, defended Barrios.

He said that since the departure of Leo Prieto, the PBA”s first commissioner, the office has lost its independence.

He said the commissioner has fallen victim to the whims and fancies of the board members.

“What they should do is give the commissioner a free hand on everything related to running the league,” said Manotoc who claimed that when he was deputy head of the league, he was given a free hand although he said that was because he was perceived to be powerful
