Official Erick Spoelstra thread

I've watched some of the Miami Heat games for the last 2 months. and I have noticed that Spoelstra and Wade have good chemistry. and all of the plays starts with Wade and i think he lets Wade have his freedom in the court(well its Dwayne Wade).
I'm sure he does let Wade have freedom, but Spoelstra is doing much, much more than that. If he just let Wade have the ball every single play (to do what Wade wants), the Heat wouldn't be 24-19. Spoelstra is coaching the other, less known players to a lot of success, and that is why the Heat are in the Play-Offs.

for it's a toss up between cleveland's mike brown and miami's erik spoelstra. though cavs has the edge in manpower but brown's achievement in cleveland is classy too. however, i would love coach spo to win it as what the other rookie coaches did in the previous years.

If the Heat continue with their amazing run for this year's playoofs and finally makes it, Erik is going to be the sentimental favorite to win the Red Auerbach Trophy being the youngest coach ever, the first Asian and coaching on his very first year .... based on history of the award, having the better record by the end of the regular season does not give you an edge .... just ask Jerry Sloan of Utah who has done wonders for Utah all these years but alas not even a single NBA Coach of the Year Award. One good thing going for Spoelstra is that he has a good rapport with the sportswriters. ;) Please note that it is a panel of sportswriters from the United States and Canada who selects the winner at the end of regular season.

But aside from Mike Brown of the Cavaliers, this early those who are also candidates for the award are Mike Woodson of the Hawks, George Karl of the Nuggets, Stan Van Gundy of the Magic, and yes Phil Jackson of the Lakers plus perenial candidate Jerry Sloan of the Jazz.

But since this is the year of Obama, do feel the winner would come from the minority which could either be Mike Brown or Erik Spoelstra. Let's see but it's still a long way. We have seen a lot of teams doing great at the first half of the season and to only falter after the All-star break.

And we also do not know how the rumored trade between Shawn Marion and Jermaine O’Neal would affect the overall chemistry of the team.

But do hope Miami keeps on playing well and they do not suffer anymore injuries.

Am also praying that Coach Spoelstra do accept my invitation to help out in the development of the Philippine National Team. Am keeping my fingers crossed. Am telling you, this guy is a genius with computer softwares and videos as he made good use of our new technology to annalyze each player and team. He is also great in scouting players and teams.

Hope so, but I do understand how busy is the schedule of a NBA Coach is. Even though he might be willing and would like to, it would still depend on his schedule. Got that from Chip Engelland, he really is dying to contribute his own little way to the Philippine cause but his commitment to the San Antonio Spurs is keeping him away. but as soon as he can see a break, he'll do something.

Who would guess that together with Spoelstra and Engelland, people like Dell Demps, Keith Smart, Sean Chambers, Cyrus Mann, Donnie Ray Koonce, Andy Fields, Dennis Still, Jeff Moore, Sylvester Cuyler, Kurtis Townsend, Bill Bayno, and the PBA Legends USA led by Abe King, Ricky Brown plus a lot more would be on their own little way is gonna help us find the way for the Philippines to regain it's basketball throne. I have to thank this new technology of ours which led me to reach them.

I would agree about Brown, Woodson, Karl, and Van Gundy. I'm an official Laker Hater, so I can't support Jackson. :D He's got Pau and Kobe and all those great role-players, so I don't think he counts. Sloan? Yeah, maybe. Utah isn't as good as they have been in the past, but AK47, Boozer, and Williams have missed a lot of games, so Sloan could be a good pick.

Right now though, Spoelstra is my Coach of the Year. Wade is the only player on that team who could start on another team (Haslem could start on some teams, too). Spoelstra is doing so much with so little.

SIMPLE! if they cant come to us we will come to them, KUNG SINONG MAY KAILANGAN SIYANG LUMAPIT. trans ( he who wants somethin must come for it ). thats common sense.

how about making our national team as a " sparring partner " in their training, A TRAINING TEAM. just imagine our players bumpin and grindin with MIAMI HEAT and SAN ANTONIO SPURS players 24/7.:eek:

not only it will strenghten their mettle as a team but it will erase the "AWE" factor with some WORLD BASKETBALL SUPERSTARS. they will not gonna fear no one anymore.

WE CAN DO IT! IT CAN BE DONE! IF WE WANT TO!

It is easier said than done .... we could surely ask, but it would not be easy. Take note we are already in communication with ex-PBA Import Dell Demps who incidentaly is the San Antonio Spurs Director of Pro Player Personnel and he already had said that he would try to help in his personal capacity but he cannot commit in behalf of the Spurs Organization as such requests must pass the organization hierarchy, management and coaching staff.

With Spoelstra, I was told by the Heat reception desk that I need an appointment first since Erick is preoccupied currently with so many things. So maybe we can sneak in at the NBA off-season.

Or maybe you are better in doing this and you can make the necessary arrangements in behalf of the National Team.

Spolestra deserves this. The Miami Heat have been already taken out of mediocrity. Let's go, Pinoy!

I think Dwayne and Erik are very good chemistry. Mike and Lebron are good chemistry... But Mike was very lucky coach because of Lebron w/ his supporters contributing... Erik's know Philosophy because of Pat Riley's system.

WELCOME BACK JIMMY!!!!!! HOW'RE YA HOLDIN UP DUDE? WHAT GIVES?;)

by the way joel, " HOLDIN UP " is not a crime. fyi.

and " WHAT GIVES " is not giving anything to someone.:)

After watching the Cavs/Heat game last night, I'm convinced that Spoelstra is a good pick for Coach of the Year. He's got a pretty bad team. Yeah, Wade and O'Neal aren't bad, but he's made a very complete, well-prepared team.

Dwade can be great on any team. He is a great player even without Coach Spoelstra, but Spoelstra did a great job holding up on the rest of the team to keep the game tight until Dwade gets the W in the 4th quarter. As a Dwade fan, I check him out at youtube.com or sportpass.tv, and he is on the top 5 or top 10 plays of the night every time he plays.

DWADE for MVP!!

If Coach Spoelstra and the Heat make a run in the playoffs, he will most likely get the award. However, the mere fact that he has a winning record with a mediocre lineup (even with D-Wade) makes him one of the top contenders. Of course, you gotta give props to the management for getting themselves a good big man.

What big man are you talking about? Shaq? He's already gone. It's about DWade. He went consecutive days with 20+ points per game. From the highlights I have seen from youtube.com and sportpass.tv, DWade seems unstoppable. You can give props to the coach for management, but you need talent in order to make that happen. Don't you remember when the Heat was way under .500 last year when they didn't have a healthy Dwade?

Jermaine O'Neal (who, in my opinion, can still dominate if he wasn't injured half the time).

Yes, I agree it's the D-Wade show that's running in Miami now (he's giving LBJ and Kobe a good fight in the MVP race). However, the young players like Beasley are starting to show up. When the likes of Beasley and Jamario Moon finally get used to Spoelstra's system, Miami should be a contender.

This just in: Wade is out with an injury.

Heat head coach to visit RP

Heat head coach to visit RP

i believe this is due this early July as he visits the Philippines to conduct clinics and basically to visit his home country, the first since being named Miami Heat head coach.

Apologies i don't have any links but this is good as confirmed.

Some facts from Wiki for those who don't know Erik:

Erik Celino Spoelstra (born November 1, 1970 in Evanston, Illinois) is the head coach of the NBA's Miami Heat. He is the first Asian/Filipino-American head coach in the NBA,[1] as well as the first Asian/Filipino American head coach of any North American professional sports team. From 2001 to 2008, he served as Assistant Coach/Director of Scouting for the team.[2][3] He is currently the youngest head coach in the NBA.

Personal life

His father, Jon Spoelstra, was an NBA executive for the Portland Trail Blazers, Denver Nuggets, Buffalo Braves and New Jersey Nets.[2] His mother, Elisa Celino is from San Pablo Laguna in the Philippines.[4] He has stated to the Philippine sports media that he would like to bring NBA style coaching/playing to the Philippines.
