The Rabeh-Al Hussaini Thread

One sign of his newfound maturity was when he went for a rebound yesterday and was pushed from behind by Arvin Braganza. He went to face Braganza but did not push the issue after Tiu talked to him. He would go on to have a monster game. It seems that it takes a lot of effort nowadays to get him out of focus.

how about rabeh vs greg slaughter

i guess they met one time already in the collegiate champions league finals(late last year or early this year i guess). Rabeh had 20 points i think to help Ateneo win it.

"GRABEH" Al-"HUSAY"-ni poured 19 points on Slaughter's defense in the first half when they faced off in the 2007 CCL.

Of course, Greg has improved tremendously this season, perhaps he will do better if they get the chance to go up against each other again in the 2008 CCL.

PASIG CITY—This guy maybe the next Chris Tiu, Ateneo superstar center Rabeh Al-Hussaini is now a certified UAAP superstar. In this season, instead of Tiu leading the Ateneo Blue Eagles, it was Al-Hussaini who dominated the team, averaging 29.0 mpg, 18.0 ppg, and 13.0 rpg, these stats proved that he can also dominate the league nor the team itself.

Nobody was then happy with Rabeh Al-Hussani. Recruited by ADMU Head Coach Norman Black in 2005, Rabeh was not the Rabeh we all know then, he was always on the bench backing up with the

likes of Clariford Arao and Doug Kramer. Until the departure of these big guys, Norman decided to use Rabeh as a balanced player and he totally became a superstar!

Now Ateneo has been winning because of his performances in the games and the balance of the team wherein every player in the roster with the likes of Nonoy Baclao and Chris TIu are helping the team to win. Ateneo is mighty as it is, they are currently 11-1 in the team standings which proves that Ateneo is likely going to win the championship, their best record since 2003. Now Rabeh is great as he is! Galing mo, gRABEH!

Catch for my next post!

Rabeh Makes Difference For No. 1 Eagles

By Abac Cordero

Monday, September 08 2008 (www.philstar.com)

Big man Rabeh Al-Hussaini is definitely the biggest reason why Ateneo landed on top of the standings after the elimination round of the 71st UAAP season.

And the good thing about this 19-year-old, six-foot-six slotman is that he’s ready to take on any one, any team.

“Wala kaming kinakatakutan (We fear no one),” he said last Saturday after guiding Ateneo past bitter rival La Salle, 65-57, before a jampacked crowd at the Araneta Coliseum.

Al-Hussaini, in his fourth year for Ateneo, had 18 points, an assist and a block in 32 minutes of action. He was the only player on the team who did not commit a turnover in the game.

It was a very typical game for Al-Hussaini who has shown tremendous improvement on his first year as a starter.

“Ako naman basta laro lang (All I do is play),” he said moments after Ateneo’s second win over La Salle this season, a win that cemented the Blue Eagles’ domination of the elims.

Even Chris Tiu, Ateneo’s heart and soul, is amazed.
“He (Al-Hussaini) really makes me proud out there,” he said.

In his first three years for Ateneo, Al-Hussaini logged in a total of 177 points and 160 rebounds. After only 14 games this year, he has logged in a total of 252 points (18.0 ppg) and 134 rebounds (9.6 rpg).

He has recorded four double-double outputs this year, and owns the season-high of 33 points recorded in Ateneo’s bitter loss to FEU in the first round, so far Ateneo’s only loss this year.

Understandably, Al-Hussaini is in the running for the MVP award, closely behind Santo Tomas main man and reigning MVP Jervy Cruz whose team is already out of contention.

In contrast, Al-Hussaini’s job is far from over.
Ateneo, being the No. 1 team, will enjoy a twice-to-beat advantage over No. 4 UE in the Final Four. Defending champion La Salle and FEU will dispute the No. 2 and No. 3 ranking on Thursday.

I think stat-wise, "Grabeh" and Jervy are close. But another point to remember, is that "Grabeh" is taller, heftier, and YOUNGER than Jervy.

Yup, but he's turning 20 this September. The crazy thing about Rabs is that HE WAS 6-6 WHEN HE WAS RECRUITED BY ATENEO 3 YEARS AGO. He's now in his 4th year and is now somewhere between 6'7 and 6'8.

i believe that he is not 6'6", maybe 6'7 or 6'8...

He's the best in UAAP right now better than jervy cruz.
actually jervy is leading in the MVP race. however, UST wasn't able to qualify in final 4. this could change as they are also including the points earned in the final 4. so al husaini has a big shot in the MVP race, that if nobody will vote cris tiu.

chris tiu has more extra points but only pogi points.
Rabeh deserves to be the MVP of this season...

rabeh and jervy it's a close race nobody can tell, but jervy has better stats and more dominating, rabeh is from the number 1 eagles,I'd say, its' a tight battle, knowing ateneo is number 1, but if prospects and potential, I'll have to go with rabeh, you can't teach height, 19 y/o, with good post moves, i remember when he was on the post and make a move Ala tim duncan, the analysts was so amazed with this guy

Run Rabeh run

Run Rabeh run

He can now run the floor! I see him finishing breaks in between hauling down rebounds. Does he dunk? I have never seen him dunk though.... A little help. Your info would be most welcome and appreciated.:)

he can dunk

he can dunk

i saw it, in the CCL. he does it twice maybe, but not in the same game.

^ Yes, he's dunked at least twice this season -- once against UST in the first round, and against UE in the second.

He turned 20 a few weeks ago.

I think SSC's Jason Ballesteros can pwn Rabeh. I think Rabeh's fortunate UAAP has great guards and even forwards but the centers are undersized. He'll have a hard time against Jason and obviously, against Sam Ekwe.

As for "Grabeh" against Sam Ekwe, well, I do remember seeing only one exhibition game between ADMU vs. SBC early this year, before the UAAP and NCAA seasons, and in that game, Sam effectively took away Rabeh's game.

But it was just an exhibition game, and Rabeh has been playing splendidly since. We'll know for sure, when if and when both teams get to play against each other in the CCL.

Black Says Al-Hussaini A Cinch For MVP Plum

Tuesday, September 16 2008 (www.philstar.com)

Whatever happens in the balloting, Ateneo’s Rabeh Al-Hussaini, in the eyes of his coach, Norman Black, is this year’s Most Valuable Player.

The 19-year-old center, who has shown tremendous improvement this season, has played a major role in leading Ateneo to this year’s finals against bitter rival La Salle.

Al-Hussaini was closely behind Santo Tomas slotman and reigning MVP Jervy Cruz in the statistical points race but is expected to draw the votes from league officials, team votes and media votes.

The statistical points form 50 percent of the total grade, with 15 percent each from the teams (players and coaches) and league officials, and 20 percent from mediamen regularly covering the UAAP.
The awarding will take place during the finals.

“Personally? It’s a no-brainer. I mean I’m not saying Jervy hasn’t been dominant but Rabeh led his team to the finals. It (choice) should be an easy one,” said the Ateneo coach.

“The last I heard being the most valuable player really is based on how you produce for your team and whether you can make your team win or not,” added Black.

The last player from Ateneo to win the MVP award was Enrico Villanueva in 2002 when the Blue Eagles defeated the Green Archers for the title. It was also the last time the two teams met in the finals.

Black, known as “Mr. 100 Percent” in the PBA where he played for so long as an import, said this year’s choice should be down to Al-Hussaini, teammate Chris Tiu and La Salle’s JV Casio and Rico Maierhofer.

He said Cruz, the heavy-bodied, hard-working center from Santo Tomas, deserves the award, too, but his failure to lead the Tigers even to the Final Four should settle the issue.

“A good point is the reality that they’re (UST) not running in the finals. If Jervy made it to the Final Four I can say that hands-down he should be the MVP of the league,” said Black. – Abac Cordero
