Steve" Kerr (born September 27, 1965 in Beirut, Lebanon) is a retired American professional basketball player. He was the most accurate three-point shooter in league history upon his retirement in 2003. He is now listed as the second most accurate three-point shooter behind Jason Kapono[1]. Kerr is a five-time National Basketball Association champion.

On June 2, 2007, the Phoenix Suns named Steve Kerr as the team's President of Basketball Operations and General Manager. Kerr, an original partner in Suns Managing Partner Robert Sarver's 2004 purchase of the franchise, helped facilitate Sarver's opportunity to buy the Suns, has been one of Sarver's trusted advisors in basketball decisions over the past three years.

can u give me his father's name ?

Interesting. It must be a case similar do Shawn Bradley's, whose father (a soldier) was in Germany at the time he was born.

Well he was born here and spent a part of his childhood in Beirut but I don't think he carries the nationality.
His father, Malcolm Kerr, was born here as well and was serving as president of AUB when he was assasinated.
I remember reading an interview with Steve Kerr where he talked about his experience in the country. I'll try to look for it.

Actually his father was a very well-respected expert on Middle East politics and didn't simply happen to be in Lebanon when Steve was born. He spent alot of time from his early childhood, then teaching at AUB and then in 1982 assumed the position of president of the university.

Another piece of information:
"As a freshman in 1984, Kerr was on head coach Lute Olson's first Arizona team. The same season, Kerr's father, Malcolm Kerr, was assassinated in Beirut, Lebanon. His dad was the president of American University of Beirut.

Seven days after his father's death, the McKale Center crowd gave Kerr a rousing ovation during Arizona's win over Arizona State University. The ovation led to that crowd's famous trademark "Steeeeve Keeerrrrr" chant during his four years in Tucson."

yea which means steve is lebanese.
If he was born in lebanon, then i think he had the lebanese nationality.
Same case with Joey Zalaoum, his father is syrian but joey is born in lebanon and now he's playing with Leb NT for U18.

Think we can convince him to step down as GM of the Suns and join the NT??

Why should Steve have the Lebanese nationality ? I was born in another country, but I never picked up the nationality but the one of my parents, so Steve maybe could get the Lebanese citizenship now (theoritally) but would be counted as a the naturalized player which would leave Joe Vogel out of Lebanon's team if Steve would ever play again and to decide to pick up the citizenship and make the team....worthless discussion I think.
Better focuse on other players that are still active and showed interest to play for Lebanon.

Mojado,u misunderstood the required from this thread,i was doing a search about some players then i saw the name of Steve kerr mentioned as a lebanese and i knew very well who is Steve Kerr.So i just post this thread as a try to get more infos about him and if he's really lebanese ,that's it !

Is that naturalization if he gets Lebanon nationality? I'm not sure as he has a fair way to get it.

All I say is that I doubt that Steve has currently the Lebanese citizenship.
Once he receive it after his 18th birthday, he would be a naturalised player. At least that's what I remember from some players being naturalised (Vladi Bogojevic and Demond Greene of Germany...Greene eventually was able to be not counted in as a naturalised player thanks to a granting of FIBA).
It doesn't matter if you are born in a country or not, all that matters is, that you have the nationality before some specific date in your life so you an be registered even afterwards by the federation, as long as you can prove to have the citizenship since your early childhood.

nothing against Lebanon but I believe Steve Kerr will be of no use since he's already aging. No, I don't think Lebanon needs a point guard but a center. My respects to the Lebanese people, I know you guys have good point guards. In addition to that, a lot of my classmates are lebanese and are friends of mine.

I don't know why you created this thread, but kerr is useless to us. All he can do is shoot 3pt (its important) but he would suck now since he is 43
and guys like rony fahed and omar turk can definitely shoot better than him now.

Steve Kerr used to go to the same school that i went to here in Lebanon (ACS, American Community School).
I even looked for his picture in previous year books from the 80's and I was able to find it.
Steve Kerr was a great player for the bulls back in the days. He also played with the Spurs (I think he won 4 Chanpionships 3 with the Bulls and 1 with the Spurs). I remember after that he worked with either ESPN or ABC as a Sports analyst before being selected as the GM of the Suns.

Well, a little from both... I bet Kerr could still shoot the lights out and still defeat Fahed and Turk in a shootout, but yes he would be useless because he is 43 and wouldn't have the legs or stamina or strength to play competitively.
