Joe Ghattas scored 31 points?! Wow. I don't think he scored that many the past 5 games hehe. That's great.
Did Josh Copperwood play?
Great stats by Aaron Haynes as usual.

Did the Blockshot article mention what 2 teams will be added to the first division next year? Will they be teams from the 2nd division?

Rony Fahed and Sagesse headed into the post-season with the purpose of making it to the end. But it seems Feytroun won’t be an easy foe.

After a challenging first game in the playoffs, Sagesse was able to overcome a tough Feytroun team and lead 2-0 in the series.

Sagesse, the second best scoring team in the league, led its hosts from start to finish, but it wasn’t a walk in the park for the former champions.

Feytroun stayed on Sagesse’s heels throughout the game, forcing respect from the expected winners.

“Feytroun is playing good basketball,” Fahed said.

“They have nothing to lose, no pressure on them.”

Fahed, Sagesse’s second leading scorer, was there to make timely shots that gave his team some breathing room.

For the night, he had 19 points, 4 rebounds and 5 assists.

Feytroun shot the ball well and stayed within reach of the lead, but never got it. It had to face a more experienced Sagesse team that knew how to switch its game to secure the win.

After a tough three quarters, Sagesse finally started to pull away uncontested, and wrapped its second win in the series, 96-82.

Sagesse takes the series back home for a chance to sweep Feytroun and qualify for the next stage.

-----------------------------------------------------------------
Al Mouttahed took the first step to reaching its first goal of the season, the Lebanese Final Four.

Winning Game 1 of its post-season series with Antranik, it put forth itself as the more dominant side of the two.

The start of the game, however, didn’t give any clues to its end. Antranik’s players were hot in the first quarter.

B.J. Spencer nailed his first 3 attempts from behind the arc to put Antranik up by 5. He later on added a few more points, to finish the night as his team’s top scorer with 18 points, 5 assists and 3 rebounds.

Up by 3 in the first quarter, Al Mouttahed started to pull away slowly. The home team resorted mainly to its strength in the paint, outscoring Antranik 26 to 13 in the second quarter.

Norman Nolan had a big night inside. He made 9 of his 10 attempts in the paint, to give Al Mouttahed the lead at the break (47-31).

Nolan went on to lead all scorers with 28 points, 11 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 blocks.

“Last two games, we got a little complacent, and didn’t put a strong effort,” Nolan said.

“But we knew come playoff time, we gotta pick it up. It was good to see guys come off the bench tonight and ready to play.”

Antranik’s Shawn Malloy stepped up in the third quarter. He scored his team’s first 7 points in the second half, and finished off with 11 points and 5 rebounds in 26 minutes.

“Defensively, we have to play 40 minutes. We can’t play 10 or 20,” Malloy said.

“If we take care of defense, offense will come.”

Al Mouttahed continued to make its shots and rebound the loose ball. Its players outrebounded Antranik 49 to 28, ending the game on top, 91-64.

Al Mouttahed’s Roy Samaha was on the floor for 24 minutes, grabbing 10 rebounds in addition to 8 points.

Alain Boustani made half his shots, adding 6 points, 4 assists and 3 rebounds to Al Mouttahed’s numbers.

“Lately, we have been a little out of focus. We knew that if he continued like that, we weren’t going to make it,” Boustani said.

“Everybody should take part in the effort. We did that tonight and I hope we continue to do it all season.”

Champville Gives Up Game 1 At Blue Stars

Date: Apr 22, 2008

Moping over their loss won’t do Champville’s players any good. Fixing their mistakes would.

Turning the ball over at crucial times and giving up fast break points proved deadly for Champville. Blue Stars took advantage when possible and sealed an important, morale-boosting win in Game 1 of the playoffs.

“We played good, we just didn’t do what we were supposed to do at critical times,” Champville’s Jarred Merrill said.

“You can’t win playoff games like that. We gave away too many transition points.”

Merrill picked up two early fouls and had to sit out 13 minutes in the first quarter. Coming back in the second half, he carried his team throughout the remaining time, before the latter made one crucial mistake.

Down by 3 with 90 minutes to go in the game, Champville gave up 4 offensive rebounds in one possession and lost its chance to tie the game.

Blue Stars held on to its lead and won the game, 82-78.

Merrill’s presence on the court was vital to his team’s survival in the game. He provided Champville with 10 third quarter points, after going 5-for-6 in the paint.

Merrill led scoring for his team, finishing the night with 24 points and 11 rebounds.

Before a disastrous second quarter, in which Champville turned the ball over 7 times and could only manage 16 points against Blue Stars’ 27, the former had the upper hand.

Making 4 of 6 attempts behind the arc, Champville got an early 9-point lead.

Problems loomed when it couldn’t keep up its offensive start. The Blue Stars team was quick to pick up the pace. The hosts drew fouls in transition to get within 5 at the end of the first quarter, 19-24.

Champville’s performance went downhill from there. The visitors had 5 turnovers in less than 5 minutes, giving Blue Stars the opportunity to score in transition and steal the lead at the break, 46-40.

After a resurgent third quarter, Champville kept the game even in the final period. Keeping a slight 2-point advantage in the final minutes, Blue Stars came out victorious at home.

Champville next hosts Blue Stars for a chance to tie the series 1-1.
