Jones Cup 2009 [Jul 18 Taiwan]

ok man, as what ive said im not against you guys just trying to help, legitimize this "shit" that's been going around this continent. Because people see wat they want to see. Its better to discuss this "shit" now before the championships starts so we can avoid that "shit" becoming a "BULLSH@T!". As soon as this investigations results came out. please post ok? peace!!!:D

I'll post for sure because im already sure that those players are legal and will play normally in the Asian Championship ;):D

Cheers!

Im tryin to suck in the infos you said, i'm not a lawyer but wat is matt freije real name? because i cant see his name in the link you gave?? The freije on the bottom list are already 5th generation and there surnames are already lukes and they got there lebanese descent from there mother, and from what i know in lebanese constitution the mother cant pass her lebanese citizenship to her children?( which is a controversy to date)
and the name DANIAL FERRIS came up also in the document but dates of birth wasn't listed but from the births of his ancestors it would make him around 40 yrs old or more, or maybe im mistaken. that document would also make the freije's and the Faris related. Is matt and daniel related? I'm really confused on that family tree, can you help me out.

One more question, so any lebanese can "RECLAIM" their citizenship in any reason they may claim, even though they are already 5th or even 6th generation ? im not against you guys as a matter of fact im trying to help, because believe me this issue will be brought up again and again unless proven otherwise especially if u win the championships!:)
pls. if you can post the link of your government's approval that will legitimize matt and co. lebanese roots pls. do so. So a doubter like me will shut up.

P.S in our case the taulava, williams and co. legitimacy on their roots has been investigated by the immigration agency and senate because local players want them out..

Don't worry hoopaddict, everything is legal.

And yes, any Lebanese descendants can get their citizenship back. What reasons are you talking about?
If a descendant wants the Lebanese citizenship then the government will see if he has Lebanese roots (from the male side of the family), if yes then he will be given citizenship, if not then not.

This is all just common sense.

I just quoted majjour post #1085 page 55 of this thread

"By Lebanese Law anyone with Lebanese origins can RE-CLIAM his passport for any reason.. this is not naturalizing . This is the case of Freige.."

That is the "reason" im talkin about, :)

So in your laws any foreigner with a lebanese surname can "RECLAIM" citizenship regardless if he is a 5th or to the nth generation of his ancestors? just as long he can trace his lineage and prove it to your government?

sorry for my ignorance,

No guys .... we're not talking about 5th or 6th generation here.

Mainly i don't know the lebanese rules concerning this point, but i know that kids from a lebanese mom cannot get citizenship, while kids from a lebanese dad get the citizenship directly. this is an issue that is being discussed by lebanese politicians.

on the other hand, Lebanese abroad haven't reached a 5th or 6th generation yet.

the migration happened around 30 years ago .... this gives us 2nd generation and maximum a 3rd generation which is still young.

In such a case, we talk about Freije, who's parents are Lebanese with a citizenship.

While, Daniel Faris' grandfather is Lebanese with a citizenship. So, daniel is the 3rd generation we're talking about.

On the other hand, we have like Rony Seikaly, who was born and raised in Lebanon until he was 13.

Brian Bechara was born in the US, but his parents were born and raised in Lebanon.

ali mahmoud was born in Lebanon but he migrated with his family when he was still very young.

example: Brian beshara used to come visit Lebanon each and every Summer ... that was before he come and play basketball here.

many Lebanese do that as well ...

hehe just because matt freije is a great lebanese player then some people question this fact and start crying out-->"you are not allowed to let him play"....it sounds like when kids are playing together and another kid who is great comes to join one of the teams, the other team argues that he is on another level so he shouldnt play...so all the people against freije playing are a bunch of silly kids...

i would like to give this example..."lebanese around the world have excelled in every field...for example in the medical field several lebanese doctors discovered medications for different kinds of cancer....so there are doctors of lebanese origins that are kicking their collegues' asses in terms of accomplishments---> is it wierd to have descent basketball players that are of lebanese origins too????????

Just for clarification, all my posts are coming from personnal researches and do not represent the Lebanese Basketball federation nor the Lebanese government.

Just for our friends info..

Lebanese immigrants not only can reclaim their Lebanese passports, but will also be able to vote in the next general elections from the country they reside in.
Lebanese immigrants have a major contribution in Lebanon, and they have the same rights as local residents, because most of them left during war time. Even our prime minister (Saad Hariri) was born in Riyadh and holds both Lebanese and Saudi nationalities...
If they can decide our political fate at least they should be able to play BBALL for the NT :D

WoW ! were now in the field of medicine...
I'M only raising this point to you guys, because i know you have an answer.Which i can'T say the same with the qatar team and the rest (they already know who they are).

Yes i will admit that i feel scared of the capabalities of your team.Even though i really don't mind losing as long as they did their best. But the scariest thing that can happen to a team that has "doubtful" entities, is suspension and the worst of all, public humiliation...

The gray area on player citizenship issues are not yet clear.FiBA said only one naturalized player, but how about foreigners that had "reclaim" their citizenship, in our case the FIL-AM's. There are no rules on these issue.
I think there should be, from what i backred on this forum a lot of my countrymen are trying so hard to discover FIL-Foreigner's that can help build up the team. There's nothin wrong with that but if there's a governing rule on this matter, for ex.: FIBA would allow "reclaiming" citizenship upto/only the 3rd generation regardless of the laws of the member nation. then scouting and recruiting will be alot easier, and doubts like these will be avoided...

To Mr.RTk04 with all due respect sir i think i have a better analogy of this situation:

Let's pretend for a sec. that instead of playing basketball in the asian championships we decide to slug it out in a war game. Of course there are rules ,like the ammunitions that will be used are paint balls ,so it won't hurt dat much if you got hit .Then before the game you saw one of your opponents(let say the qataris, hehehe) are using plastic pellets.Which,if used will hurt more.
Now what will you do? Let them be? or tell them, hey that's cheating!!!:D

I hope you got my metaphor....peace bros..:D

guys dont forget we have abdalla bou farhat old president of ecuadore in south america, dolly shlala old minister of health in USA,PROFESSEUER MICHEL DABAGHI,SALMA HAYEK,MASSARI,MARIO ZAGHALO,marcos baghdatis ..........

Frustrating showing

Frustrating showing

Team Pilipinas seriously STUNK at this year's jones cup... i mean.. wow.. have we ever heard of a set play? i seriously did not see many plays... just a buncha running up and down the court... we should seriously consider concentrating on football. we have been trying for years to improve in basketball.. so many teams in asia have equalled and surpassed our team... they have improved while we have become stagnant.. if not declined. If we are putting our hopes on the shoulders of japhet aguilar.. that really isn't fair for him... and needless to say... with the lack of height and power inside.. we will only be a southeast asian power.. nothing more.

Well, the team has gotten better (football) with the Younghusbands and Cahd Gould and good play from Cap Emilio Caligdong.

On a basketball note, nobody I mailed responded to my want for stats. Perhaps I shall mail ESPN again.
