Olympiakos 2009-2010

One more garbage year, Giannakis will stay...

So, Greer, Teodosic, Erceg, Schortsianitis, Milosevic and Pelekanos will probably leave the team, and our first transfers will probably be Andreas Glyniadakis (27, 2.16, C, Maroussi) and Nikolaos Zisis (25, 1.97. G, CSKA Moscow).

PG: Papaloukas, Sloukas
SG: Halperin(?)
SF: Childress(?), Vasilopoulos
PF: Printezis(?)
C: Bourousis(?), Vujcic

* Last year contracts: Giannis Bourousis, Giorgos Printezis.
** Josh Childress may receive an offer from Atlanta Hawks (NBA).

Yeah, we will give a huge battle with Maroussi next year, for the second position in the league...

Glyniadakis and Zisis? Are we sure it isn't KWSN-Men drawing up Oly's roster for next season? ;)

Must leave: Greer, Pelekanos and Schortsianitis must leave no matter what. Why?

Greer: You cannot trust a player who regularly performs near zero. Where was he in the most important matches? Also very small body at defense.

Schortsianitis: Olympiakos isn't a kindergarten.

Pelekanos: A 26-year old player who gets zero minutes. Why to pay him anyway? Once he was a talent...

No more gambling.

Must stay: Teodosic, Papaloukas, Vasilopoulos, Printezis, Bourousis, Vujcic.

Teodosic: He has the talent as a PG, shooting skills, big prospect. I like his game.

Papaloukas: ------

Vasilopoulos: He can change the momentum of the game with his defense. Very athletic player, who also has the guts to take big shots even though shooting isn't his forte. His absence was so important in the finals and at Berlin. (He's about to do a surgery).

Printezis: You have o dig deep to find a player with such energy.

Bourousis: ------

Vujcic: Weak feet, years have past, but considering that Sofo will leave and a powerful Center will be bought, his quality for his height is unique and can be more than just important. We cannot forget that Vujcic was our most valuable player for some period within the season.

Not sure: Erceg, Milosevic, Halperin, Childress.

Erceg: I don't know. He's young, can shoot very well for his height, but I expected more from him in relation to his gameplay time. He doesn't seem to have what it takes to make a long and successful career in Olympiakos. Perhaps he deserves a second chance though.

Milosevic: I was thinking to put him in the "must stay" category because we have nothing yet to make conclusions. He's very young and did not get any chances, but we don't need so many "prospects" right now. Maybe the best solution is to loan him so he'll get some games.

Halperin: Yes, he played very well against TAU at Vitoria...Do I forget any other game? He's supposed to be a pure shooter, but with his contribution I have my doubts. If he cannot do well the only thing he's supposed to do well what's the reason to keep him? He's also supposed to carry too much of experience since 2004 but we haven't seen any of it. On the other hand does he need any kind of adaptation time in order to hit free shots? I lean on showing him the door but not sure. We need a scorer.

Childress: I'm sure he'll be better next season if he stays, no doubt his physical skills cannot be found in any other player in eurore now. Sometimes he gives me the impression that he only needs a team system to dominate on the court, sadly we didn't see any system in general this year.... I have no doubt Obradovic would make him a hero. But money-wise, with 4 M Euros per season you can sign Siskauskas and Lavrinovic as a package, plus they seem to be more "guaranteed" solutions...

And lastly, what should happen with the coach? What are the alternatives? I would say there's no reason to fire Giannakis unless we are talking about Messina. On the one side I don't want to demolish Giannakis because he's in the start of his club-level career and he has already been successful with the NT, but NT is different than sitting on the bench of Olympiakos. He made lots of mistakes and his influence on the players is minimal. Perhaps a coach like Messina would "resurrect" our players. Imo a wise choice would be to give him the team for a second year, with the appropriate additions-subractions in the roster and see how it goes, and if we don't see any progress then it means it's going to be a waist of time with him.

Must Leave:
Greer, Pelekanos, Erceg, Theodosic,Milosevic

Must Stay:

Papaloukas, Childress, Bourousis, Schortsianitis, Printezis, Vasilopoulos, Vujcic

Coach Giannakis

Childress is much better player than people think. He lacks shooting skills but we are talking about next season. I suppose OLY will sort this problem out.

Schortianitis this coming season will have a proper preparation time if he is dedicated to the game. He did look significantly tyhinner past month and we all know that in top form he is a game shifter.

Vujcic is experienced but he desperately needs help underneath the basket.

Papaloukas, Printezis, Bourousis, Vasilopoulos: well nothing to say here we all know that these guys are OLY best players and three of those could be the base upon which olympiacos builds an excellent team

As for Giannakis, we all keep forgeting that this guy is very dedicated, he has done well in in the national team and Marousi. He will find the solutions. He knows better this year.

Sofo:Could be the nightmare of every european team..He should be released though since such a club should only work with pure professionals..He blew numerous chances given to him.Imo releasing him is a matter of pride and emulation towards anyone who works to Oly.

Vasilopoulos,Childress:Both very good players but at least one needs to go..Imo Josh.Oly have to get a SF with different attacking attributes.Siska and Parker off course would make massive signings but there are other good options like Sato,Hervelle,Grimau.

Printezis,Erceg: Also very good players but in order to be at the higher level I think one of them should change (Erceg even though i think he has great potential, because Printezis is greek)..Replacements for the step forward Ksystof or Matjas.

Bourousis and Papa should stay without discussion.
Theodosic should also stay.Except off course if there's a chance for McIntyre or Planinic or even Kaukenas.
Vujcic should probably stay since there are no better options in the market.

Giannakis..Imo he has lost the game, the trust of his players and fans and will be in constant pressure.I don't think he's got what it takes to do it.Since Ettore is heading to Madrid maybe Pianizziani or Scariolo seem good choices..

I admit it. I found the door to Banaot's mind since last year, but this year will be my masterpiece!

I will also extend Pelekano's contract until 2013!

:D

So, a list with players, Oly is after (according to worldwide media):

Possible: Andreas Glyniadakis (27, 2.16, Maroussi), Nikos Zisis (25, 1.97, CSKA Moscow), Ibrahim Jaaber (25, 1.88, Lottomatica Roma), Kšyštof Lavrinovič (29, 2.10, Montepaschi Siena), JR Holden (32, 1.85, CSKA Moscow), Omar Cook (27, 1.86, Unicaja Malaga).

Would be a surprise: Darko Miličić (23, 2.13, Memphis Grizzles), Matjaž Smodiš (29, 2.05, CSKA Moscow), Anthony Parker (33, 1.98, Toronto Raptors), Predrag Stojaković (31, 2.08, New Orleans Hornets).

The truth is out there: Ben Gordon (26, 1.91, Chicago Bulls), James Posey (32, 2.03, New Orleans Hornets), Marvin Williams (22, 2.06, Atlanta Hawks).

According to rumours in Israel, Parker and saras cantidets...

Parker yes Saras no way.mark my words

If OLY lost both Printezis and Bourousis which are essential part of the core they wont find players (national at least) to replace them.Espesially Bourousis is indispensable player for OLY.
