What keyword do you expect, so that you will believe. This is the PBA not the NBA. Only small players padded their height just like Ben Wallace 6'7"(listed 6'9"), Rodman 6'7"(listed 6'8"), Charles Barkley 6'4" (listed 6'6"). And so Shaq isn't 7'1" but 6'11"????.Maybe this practice is used in the NBA, but not all players around the world also used it. And I belive that Filipinos didn't do that. We all know naman here in the Pilipinas that if you lie you will be criticized by all the people. But, even the Coaches, Players, Panelist believe that he is a legit 6'9".
Well I didn't say everyone did it in the NBA, but is
commonly practiced in the NBA, and is also often exposed because of their publicized pre-draft measurements. Ex. Stoudamire was measured as 6'8.5" barefoot, but is listed as 6'10, '08 1st overall pick Derrick Rose was measured as 6'1.5" but listed as 6'3". of course there are players who are listed as their measured height such as Elton Brand, Lebron James, Grant Hill, etc. If not their real height maybe just a quarter more or less.
NOW, just like you, I used to think the Philippines did not practice this. I even used to say that players such as Danny Ildefonso, Rommel Adducul, Enrico Villanueva, Who are listed as 6'6", 6'6" and 6'5" respectively could pass up as 6'8" or 6'7" if we were to match them up internationally with those who practice the height padding.
But then I later-on noticed, that these players would look significantly shorter than imports but then should be on or under the height limit for imports of 6'6". This can still be noticed now, if you see imports this conference who were measured close to 6'6" officially, would look significantly taller than many 6'6" listed PBA players like danny I, Quinahan, Bono, Allado, etc.
What further enforced this revelation was the PBA starting to present players' official pre-draft measurements for their draft.
this, for me, was a tough pill to swallow, but it is the truth.
Although there are some PBA players who are listed as they are measured, Such as Sonny Thoss at 6'7", Mark Andaya, Mark Telan etc.
You mentioned that here in the Philippines, that if you lie you will be criticized, but it is so in every other country..
the Coaches, Players, and Panelists, supports these height padding practice, to promote the league, their teams and the players, and so it would be more appealing to fans. But official measurements prove to be more valuable to coaches and scouts. that is why it is important for them to know these.
Now, you ask what keyword it is that you have to say for me to start believing you.. that keyword would be
"Official"
I apologize, for pushing you to believe that Taulava is 6'7 or 6'8, but it is only my observation. There is no official measurement for Taulava so there is no way of me to prove that he isn't, although my arguments are that he looks significantly shorter than players who are listed as 6'9" such as Eman, Aquino, and Pennisi. These players who are more or less the as tall as each other, With Eman being officially listed as 6'8". Also, I have read some criticisms about Taulava's Height before. (i think most of them are articles)
try comparing these Imports with PBA local players who are listed as 6'6", and 6'5"
