SBP Long-term national team pool vol. II

With regards to Angping's policy of banning Fil-fors..please be reminded that PSC, in which he chairs, is a gov't agency and International Olympic Commitee clearly mandates that the gov't should not and cannot intervene with the affairs of any National Sports Association (NSA) affiliated with IOC. PSC was established just to finance or give funding to the NSAs but they are not in the position to dictate to them what should or should not do.

Financially capable NSAs like the SBP and Phil Tennis Assoc will continue to recruit fil-fors because they can afford not to receive money from PSC. In fact, PhilTA will be playing its next Davis Cup tie with Fil-am Cecil Mamiit and another new US based player this month.

So dont worry about the fil-ams and fil-somethings we have on our basketball team. PSC has no authority to kick them out.

Phil. Swimming on the other hand relies heavily on the graces of PSC, that's why they vehemently opppose Angping's policy against fil-fors. Our best swmmers right now are all US-based. Another casualty maybe is the football federation which has fil-fors 3/4 of its roster. If only those 2 federations can have a patriach like SBP's Pangilinan and PhilTA's Jean Henri Lhuiller, they'll be in good shape.

I just hope he puts up a good program for our local athletes first and start from the grass root programs before he does something stupid and as what he said foolish.I mean if there are locals who are better than the Fil-Foreign guys then who has the improper mind to ignore them..di ba? But the thing is,it's really obvious that the guy doesn't know sports at all.I'm not against our local athletes but I'm just saying that we need those Fil_foreign guys because they have the proper training and exposure that the local athletes lack. Now it's Angping's job to supply the Philippine sports all the necessary things they need.Let's see if he works better than he talks.Act first before you preach Mr. Angping

maybe angping wanted fil-chinese not fil-ams to play for RP. it's been a practice of PASA eversince to have half-pinoys to represent RP in international events long before angping was appointed by arroyo as PSC chair. the likes of akiko thompson, christine jacob among others.

bro a slight correction .... akiko thompson is a naturalized filipino citizen. even though their family is a long time philippine resident, her dad is a full blooded American Citizen and her mom is a full blooded Japanese married to an American. Her late dad is a long time member and was a president of the American Chamber of Commerce.

guys lets not be angry about harry angping's policy in FIL-AMS... because of our recent campaign in the ASIAN games and Olympic those fil-ams did not bring us medal... he just want to focused on developing grassroots program and start planning for a long term program... FIL-ams are expensive and with PSC's limited budget this means that we must try to cut the budget for those fil-ams... dont you guys know that PSC is starting to have a plan for income generating projects?? i think angping is the right man for the job...

I think the we should take a look at the model of the US soccer federation & the Australian Institute of Sport. US soccer federation has "regional bases" where they develop talent in that particular region, and they have a "national residency" program, where they develop the best U-15 to U-17 prospects from the different regions. I like these because we develop the BEST prospects in the 14-17 age range while we keep tabs on "regional" kids who probably have a different "growth curve" compared to other kids.

that is a very great idea and is actually ideal but the problem boils in the regions or provinces not having the financial or technical capability to sustain such a program. Plus the current financial crisis makes it very difficult.

If only if we can revive the old Gintong Alay Program and also the Palarong Pambansa that would be a good start. But for this to succeed there must be a joint effort between the private sector and government.

Harry Angping claims that he is delighted with the age grassroots development program the SBP has established. Even if he decided to lend a hand, the fact that the 2010 presidential elections is fast approaching makes it more vague.

I think Angpin is just worried about the expenses that will be incurred in acquiring the services of Filipino-foreign athletes.

Remember, the big over-blown allowance/salary that athlete David Buenavacz? He initially wanted a huge salary but was later reduced. But he did not bring any glory to Philippine athletics apart from getting injury prone. This guy turned out to be a party animal during the night and was involved several scandals.

Tennis star Cecille Mamiit had the same circumstances. When Mamiit was discovered in the mid-90s after beating then World Number 1 Andre Agassi in an ATP tourney, he was offered to represent our country but he declined and was asking a huge pay back then. When Mamiit decided to wear the Philippine colors, he was already way past his prime.

recently on nbn sports POC executive board submit a resolution to GMA to oust Harry Angping...

Angping is not banning FIL FORS but he just want to develop grassroots programs... i think the POC was just doing this because they could not control angping... angping wants many NSA's to submit a report on many unliquidated funds... the POC boards is now scared that there dirty tactics will soon be known all around the country...

i really like the idea of the grassroots program. it will give opportunity to other people to showcase their talents. it's also a good venue for parents and other people to keep their children off drugs. however, with the kind of leadership that the NSA's are having. it discouraged these potential individuals to go for it. that's why NSA's resort to getting services to this mix breds even if it looks as if they are mercenaries in the sport. they are paid to represent the country win or lose. if they win, it's ok if they lost we can't do anything about it. at least they give a superficial inuendos to other countries because of their credentials. now if we stopped hiring them, the more the national squad will become uglier.

preventing NSA's in hiring fil-fors is just like banning them. though it's not direct but they are withdrawing support to NSA's who cannot stand without support from the government and are still relying from the dole outs from PSC. each of the NSA's are talking grassroots program. they always say that they have funding to support tournaments in the grassroots level in search of potential national athletes that can represent the country in the international level. footbal, tennis, swimming, diving, boxing, baseball, atheletics among others are the type of sports that we could dominated or at least certain individuals could have been giving dominant performance in the asian region or perhaps in the olympics. but have you seen any grassroots program? maybe you saw some in the major cities but not all. these federations has been receiving fundings from the international federations of these sports to help augment the funds given by the goverment but where are the funds?

the sports in our country is in a sorry state because of these corrupt individuals that disguises as goats but they turned out to be fox who are just preying on us ordinary people. the people who are wholeheartedly paying income and community taxes. i still don't want to dream that the coveted olympic gold that we are aspiring will be realized soon. they really need to keep that promise in giving the grassroots program a top priority if they really wanted to stop hiring foriegn born players.

He should act on something first..show something good for a change if he preaches that he could take the Philippine sports to another level. Then he could have all of his press releases after. He's like Yeng Guiao all talk and no game.Freaking braggarts.

but that aging star brought philippine tennis back to respectability. in the Davis Cupwe are now back in the world group, instead of the zonals

The problem of Mamiit then was that he was a developmental player of the USTA. After winning the NCAA singles for I believe USC, Mamiit turned pro with the support of the USTA. The financial support he received was huge, travel expenses, per diem and coaching. Mamiit had a dilemna. If he played for the flag of his parents, ie. the Philippines, he risks loosing all the perks afforded to him by the USTA. He and his family did not have the means to shoulder the expenses. The price quoted to Philippine emissaries was to replace what he was going to give up if he turned his back on the USTA.

Mamiit reduced his asking price when the support he used to receive from the USTA amounted to zero and his ranking started to fall.

i watched ermirtas press con last night and he said that angping will stay.. POC and PSC will meet tomorrow (friday) to sort this out... angping was just curious of big funds that the swimming NSA gets... he just want to have a fair distribution of money... PASA trains its athletes in the USA and some of them go college there and the PASA are paying all of their expenses.... Angping also wants to search more talented swimmers in tawi tawi..

Guyz...maybe they will not banned Fil-Foreigners they just want to improved our grass roots program

I'm kind a new here....so I welcome my self hehe:D

Not only that. When the Muay Thai NSA head was shot dead several days ago, Angping appointed a new head to replace Valdez, which according to some POC officials as ILLEGAL.

Another was Angping's meddling of the Cycling NSA row between two rival factions. Angping apparently recognized one of the factions as the new chief in cycling.

Bottomline, Angping wants changes immediately as he is set to step down alongside PGMA. But the changes he wants were at sometime were not to the knowledge of his fellow board in the PSC.

This is where the POC is angry because he is meddling with the NSAs that is way beyond his responsibilities.
