Shaq Numbers His Days In The NBA

ORLANDO -- In an exclusive interview, former Orlando Magic Center Shaquille O'Neal told News 13's Tiffany Greene Wednesday exactly how long it will be until he hangs up his high tops.

For some time, Shaq has hinted at retirement, but now has an exact number of days.

The 7-foot NBA legend, who now plays for the Phoenix Suns, but maintains a home in Central Florida, had a captive audience on Wednesday as he talked with the kids at the Pine Hills Boys and Girls Club.

He told Green that he intends to play out the remainder of his contract and then call it quits.

"My basketball career will be over in 735 days, and being an educated man, I've always had things to fall back on. So one of my options is law enforcement. But if Jerry Demings is going to be the sheriff I would love to work for him," O'Neal said.

O'Neal was once the top pick in the NBA Draft by the Magic, but he said his next life is in law enforcement.

As long as he doesn't try getting back into rap.
Shazam!!

O'Neal's career has really gone downhill. Maybe with a Phoenix training camp, he will play better, but I just can't see it. He's in terrible shape. America's youngest centers are incredibly fast around the hoop and Shaq can't keep up with them. Of course, he will always have his muscle, which counts for a lot.

Well its gonna be the "End of an Era!"... he is the last active playing member of the NBA 50 greatest players... with two seasons to go... he deserves some tribute... his got an impressive career and pretty much won every single medals and trophies that are available for an American player both in professional and international basketball...

Looks like maybe he'll be scaring the s*** out of the criminals of Orlando (or wherever he works) in 2 years if he'll become a policeman :)

That's if he doesn't do something stupid again like dissing Kobe in public and getting his license revoked for good :D

I never liked him as a player and as a person (or at least the public image he has), but he was one of the best centres ever in the NBA. He should have retired already when he was still dominant. Now it's just downhill... And he can embarrass himself and his team.

i heard he got a restraining order bcoz he was stalking some chick he was dating some time ago and his police badge, liscense ( whatever its called ) was taken from him?
so is he really coming a policeman? i guess NOT but then again who knows

Isiah Thomas was GM and coach for a while.

Shaq has stated before that if he wasn't a bball player he would want be a cop and go after the bad guys :) (Even though when Shaq was 12 years old he dreamed of becoming a ballerina but everyone in school used to make fun of him cuz he was so huge :D )

Shaq actually mentioned sometime ago that he is planning to buy an NBA team... possibly the Orlando Magic...

Maybe he'll come back, like Michael Jordan did? Then he can appear in a bunch of Rick Rush paintings...like Michael Jordan did.

My feelings exactly. Shaq always lacked the grace to be fun center to watch and he was always so boisterous off the court to make me interested.

I'm afraid it will be a situation like what Patrick Ewing and Hakeem Olajuwon went through. I guess we've forgotten about those awful last years in New York, Seattle, and Orlando for Ewing. And we've also forgotten how ugly Olajuwon played in his last years. I think it's the same for Shaq now.

What had those guys staying that late was the lack of back ups for those great dominant centers. GMs, coaches were still thinking an dominant center was vital for a team without MJ, and they thought those guys with all their experience were still able to take a team on their shoulders. But, physically they were ruined! So is Shaq today. But Shaq is even more lonely as a pure skilled center as they were. So... if a team plans to play slowly enough to play with him, maybe he can still be useful for few minutes. in a second five.
Even if today, dominant players are Sgs/Sfs.

Mike D'Antoni is out and Steve Nash is aging and that means Phoenix might be going down. Shaquille O'Neal might consider going back to Orlando to at least end his career in a dominating way and at the team that "made" him and at the same time, he "made".

735 days?!?

Wow...
Shaq must retire now!
He has proven everything and I already hate him now.
