Today, August 27th, 2008, is Interbasket's fifth anniversary.
I can't believe that it's been five years.
Some days it seems as if it's been longer than it (technically it has been, read more below), and some days it seems like it was just yesterday I sat down (virtually, of course) with Matt, CFFI and a couple others talking about whether we should create an international basketball forum.
History
InterBasket began in August 2003, but saw much more humble beginnings back in July of 2001 as a Arvydas Sabonis Yahoo Group (link). I had created the group so that fans of the great Lithuanian center could all gather in one common place to discuss anything and everything about the European legend.
Rough Beginnings
It was essentially myself and Janis (Crazy Fan From Idaho) posting responses to each other’s threads. A kid with the username Young Sabas introduced himself, and showed up here and there, but it was just Janis and I for the first year — chatting with each other on Yahoo’s archaic message board.
In mid-2003, I began seeing more and more members to the Yahoo group signing up from around the world. No longer were fans coming from Lithuania, but members were signing up from Spain, Russia, China, Italy, and more.
I thought to myself If there are so many people that want to talk about Arvydas Sabonis, why not Peja Stojakovic or Dirk Nowitzki? And that basically was the beginning of Ibn.
Thanks to IBN Members
Special thanks to all the great moderators that started out as fantastic members - Mvblair, CFFI, Zalg, Sino, JCN, NaF, Matiz, Josean, sariss, Trif, and any others that I may have missed.
I definitely want to thank ALL the members that has made the forum it is today, the members of this forum are what makes it what it is today and will continue to shape, evolve and grow this forum into what I like to believe is one of the more intelligent forums online, and certainly one of the most unique sports websites on the planet. Cheers to all of you and happy birthday Interbasket...
