Well, so Spanish players are quarrelsome and like to irritate the other. Very well.
They should go to prison. And Navarro condemned to death for doing that layup. This is my verdict.

No need to be sarcastic. I simply mentioned it as a statement that Spanish players (as, I'm sure, others too) aren't olympic-torch-holding, olympic-spirit-loving innocent sheep

Spanoulis said it as he saw it.He always speaks his mind and he's brutally honest.Even more it's his personal opinion,in his personal blog,a comment made in a civilized and mild manner of what he has personally experienced IN THE COURT multiple times.
But anyway thanx for your verdict. It was very valuable, insightful and constructive.:)

My heart bleeds for Chinese basketball fans, specially Feifei in this forum. There should have been no way that China should have lost to Spain -- allowing the Spaniards to catch up in the fourth quarter and outscore them by 10 points in the extension period.

But this game is a harbinger of good change. Once and for all, it establishes that Asian countries can win against even the best european teams if it decides to do the heroic thing and focus well on winning on a play-by-play basis. In less than twenty years, several Asian countries like China and South Korea will have equalized fully with the best that European teams can come up with.

edit, unacceptable -Stuart

I also hope that the greeks have enough gas to stop them like before. of all the european teams we've met, the greeks and their neighbor slavs compete like real men the most. it is quite unfortunate for them that spain has the smartest deep-pressure coaches in europe!

At least, I'm so happy to see that some Chinese players like the much maligned and basketball dictators-hated wang zhi zhi proved his worth. Yao ming, like a typical overhyped NBA player simply melted under the pressure and proved once and for all that he is only an object of commercial fascination -- he can never be a hero who can win important games, just like in Houston.

Let us thank the chinese national team for revealing what has always been hidden. There was never anything that prevented Asian teams from dominating any other national team on this planet. It is just unfortunate that the Chinese like the Pinoys are extremely fascinated with African Americans hanging around in rims....
I see all the game China vs Spain.
Yes it's very regrettable.
But I never heart bleeds .Because I can see the hope .
Thanks for your attention

I was sarcastic but without bad intention. What I want to say is that there's no need to vilify Spanish players for the last play or for some words that some of them can say to rivals when playing. As you say ,I'm sure that in every teams there are players that do the same. It's not necessary but it's included in the game.

I haven't been unrespectful and I'm sure that Spanoulis could say the same about players of other countries, and if also some Spanish players tell about what they hear in a court they could say the same about others.

Jesus christ Liu Wei needs to crawl into a cave and never come out again, fucking let the pass from Yao bounce off his own chest, then yells at Yao?! And Yi needs to get his head back in the game, he looks like he's in some other world.

To be fair he was getting away with fouling left and right. China got no help at all in their home building.

interestingly enough all three refs here were non-European (from Brazil, Puerto Rico and Australia).
overall it was an exciting outcome, surely. China are improving faster than probably any other country, imho. who could have thought a few years back they will lead Spain for so long with Yao and Yi combining for only 15 points. even Germany are useless when Dirk does not score 20+ and they are considered by many as an "European powerhouse". btw, Yi had 9 rebounds.

VERY GOOD GAME, this is going down in the books as one of the most exciting games.i hope someone capped this because this will be talked for quite sometime.

I dind't whatch the game, were working :( . China looks very god, and the god news for them are that is that they are not only Yao. I'm amazen reading a lot of people here that Spain is getting down, that sound disrespectful to China game.

For Spain, i think that this game is going to wake up them. Better a game like this now than later.

Some thoughts:

- Some Spanish players are indeed out of shape. Most notably, Garbajosa (completely useless in the offensive end) and Navarro (those defensive rebounds falling into his hands that he lost were pathetic). But Calderón is not looking particularly well.

- Aíto keeps rotating a lot, but some players are looking useless. At some point, he will probably have to cut the rotation, but it's not happening in this preliminary round. No way.

- Kazlauskas seemed to have the game extremely well prepared. I was surprised by the excellent defensive display of the Chinese players.

- Greece won't make the same mistake as Spain and I see them presuring the Chinese from the first minute, so they can get comfortable in the game and build their confidence.

- I dont' believe in wake-up calls. Usually, it's most of eye-opening games, that show you that something is not going well. I remember a loss against Israel in 2005 or the loss against Croatia in 2007. Same goes for the US Team. They are always talking about wake-up calls everytime they loss a game (or struggle to win), but in the end they don't really "wake up".

- The referees were pathetic. It's amazing that those guys are allowed to step a foot in an Olympic event. They didn't even know from where they had to inbound the ball with less than a minute to be played. Embarrassing. Please, some Euro refs for the next game.

So the question now becomes, is the Chinese team that much improved or is the Spanish team more readily beatable than prognosticators had thought before the Olympics?

Genjuro is right. Referees weren't even able to whistle a foul in favour of Gasol when he tried to obtain two free throws screaming "aaaaaaaaaaaargh!" every time he was shooting from the paint. That's really a shame.

I'm afraid I have to agree, usually these games show there's something wrong in principle. But well, usually doesn't mean always;).

Good test for Spain after a disappointing Greek team that was easily dispatched in game one. Interesting how Spain handled being down by 15 in the third, something that certainly doesn’t happen very often. They also kept a cool head even when the refs tried to keep the game on Chinese reach. The young guns Marc and Ricky showed character taking the responsibility in the last seconds and forcing overtime. Another day in the office for Pau and Rudy, with 29 and 21 points, respectively. I just feel bad for the Chinese team. Played their best games against the wrong teams and now they will probably finish the tournament scoreless in their victories account.

Yeah, it's a matter of fact that Spain needs the referees to win anything, and this game was no exception.

Do you have anything sensible to say or just came to this thread to provoke?

To HepCat: Spain was beaten twice in EuroBasket, and didn't play against Liths who were probably better than Russians and Croatians, so last year already were pretty beatable, probably, as much as this year.

On the contrary, China it's much better than I expected. My bet it's that they'll play the quarterfinals.

My heart also bleeds for the all the Pinoys in this forum who continue to idolize and ape the African-American NBA players who are good mostly only for hanging around the rim like you know what kind of animal. Breaking down the Lebron and Kobe shitty planet of the apes show is not easy, but most certainly very realistic.

It is just unfortunate that the Chinese like the Pinoys are extremely fascinated with African Americans hanging around in rims....
