Official Erick Spoelstra thread

If he was scouted during the 80's. I'd see him like an Olsen Racela if he did play ball here in the Philippines.

Fil-Am calls the shots for Miami Heat
By Dante Navarro
Wednesday, April 30, 2008

In a previous interview, Spoelstra said he’s aware of how basketball is loved by Filipinos.
“I know about the PBA,” said Spoelstra. “I know Billy Ray Bates played there. Jim Kelly invited me to play in the PBA some years ago and I think it was for the Coca-Cola team. I would’ve been eligible to play as a local.”

He would have been or even played better than Olsen Racela, wonder why he didn't come to play in the PBA, oh well, he had his own reasons but it turned out to be the right decision for him and look where he is now, let's just wish him all the best.

Profile of DeAndre Jordan, I hope Spoelstra get this guy. I like this center:

Jordan could become the next GREAT big man. He will go high as his potential is off the charts. He's 7’0” and 255lb with great athleticism and the ability to dominate in the paint. It will take him years to develop an all around game, but if he focuses on rebounding and defense, everything else will come along in time. A special player here.

Draft Profile provided by: Brian Mazique - A rare athlete and specimen for a 7 footer, his game and focus must catch up to his physical ability. A difficult kid to pass up in a draft, considering the ceiling for a true footer like this, with great athleticism. The concern with Jordan is that he has yet to dominate on the collegiate level. He is a project at this point, any NBA team drafting him would be hard pressed to get more from him than a few highlight reel dunks, blocks and a ton of foul trouble. Give him a season or two more seasoning, allowing him to either gain discipline or fizzle out and then we would have a clearer picture of the next dominant big men in the NBA or Johan Petro.

So DeAndre Jordan's like another Dwight Howard? That'd be interesting.
not quite yet, most reviews i read on him says he IS the next... Bynum. full of potential, and as the article ram posted, could either be a big hit or a huge miss.

now that its open, I wonder who eric will pick for the draft? Heat's locked in atleast the 4th pick right?

saw a couple of jordan's games on tv. for a high draft pick he looks very uncoordinated and played about 20 minutes a game. doesn't put up good numbers in college averaging 7.9 points per game and 6.0 boards and shot 43.7 percent from the free throw line on a texas a&m team that needs offense. the heat are better off picking beasley or rose.

if the heat goes to get the 1st or 2nd pick, it'll most likely be beasly and rose, noone else. if they get 3rd or 4th, that's the problem. if they'll get a biggie, would they go to the limited potential but ready to go in Brook or wait a few years to develop DeAndre? if they want to go small(which is possible since Wade loves Rose) then its most likely Bayless.

let's just wish spoelstra good luck in his first season as an NBA head coach. hopefully, he will not end up like other coaches who were booted out after a season because they failed to bail out their teams from the cellar.

I was never a Miami Heat fan i might say something negative hehehe anyway let's say he'll get some rookie jitters on his first three games and maybe get lucky on the end of the season :D

how many times did riley got ejected the past 2-3 seasons? who's calling the shots when it happened? is it coach spo or the other assistant coaches?

yeah, he played for red bull in 2005 Fiesta Conference before joining the Miami Heat in the 2005-06 season. he led red bull to win the championship trophy at the expense of purefoods in the best of 7 series, 4-2. however, barron was beaten by then purefoods import, marquin chandler for the best import plum.

He could suck as an NBA player but I'm sure he'd be a hit here in the Phils if you make him a naturalized player.

DeAndre Jordan

DeAndre Jordan

He's 19, 20 soon (7/21/1988)

He may be a few years away from greatness though.

Weaknesses: Needs to develop his body, strengthening his arms and upper body and toning his legs ... Despite being a bigtime athlete, he’s still extremely raw fundamentally … Right now his offensive game is limited to mostly dunks and follow up shots around the basket … Still needs to add a lot to his game, so it’s unlikely he’ll be ready to contribute much after just one season at Texas A&M … Lacks range. He has decent touch, but lacks any real post moves or great offensive understanding … A year in college will definitely help him to pick up better foot work and post moves ... Will need to develop a mid range shot as well as improve upon his free throw shooting … Added strength will give him confidence and the ability to play more aggressively … He is Shaq and Wilt like at the line. Really must improve as a free throw shooter ...

More like Michael Olowokandi, he's got the same build. In the NCAAs he didn't even start and was dominated by Kevin Love (UCLA won).
