i think what he is telling is how the bap-sbp manages the basketball in the philippines

Only the BAP I think is the root of all our problems in basketball. And it doesn't mean that SBP, the national sports association for basketball has a weak leadership. The MVP is highly respected in business circles and in sports particularly basketball.

Note: SBP remained the sole surviving entity after the union and BAP was dropped as officially agreed upon.

Reads like somewhat in reference to our U18 Youth Team, where Franz Pumaren was quoted saying, our team is flexible, we can play big and small. Young as they are they got speed, endurance, the heart of young lions and a relentless kind of defense will be their main weapon against very tall odds. A pressure trapping defense will likely work against taller and heftier opponents.

unity is the key. if BAP will not interfere and meddle in all decisions brought in by SBP, i think we can move on. sad to say, BAP won't budge and allow SBP to function as a sole governing body of basketball here in RP.

3 Main Weaknesses:

Experience/Exposure:
Our top cagers play by professional rules, our unfamiliarity to play by amateur (FIBA) rules is one of our drawbacks. We need revert back to this rule to compete internationally. PBA rules are just for entertainment purposes only, not by any chance an international or world class. We also need to compete regularly abroad not only in asia, but also in europe and the US, to gain that added experience and exposure.

Preparations:
We lack continuity, we only form a team when there's a competition. We need to work on our physical conditioning, cohesion, teamwork, chemistry, defense and offense, a long term training program should be in place, year-round or possibly during the PBA off seasons. Assembling a pool of players would be great. Team Philippines needs to be ready anytime, anywhere and be always ready to do battle.

Height:
Positions 1 to 4 are loaded with talents we just need the big number 5, an international standard center 7-feet or more to compete not only in asia but against the rest of the world. We are competing in the global stage not just to represent the flag and country but to kick some butts.

Outside Shooting:
We don't have reliable and consistent shooters, Allan Caidic was the last of our pure shooters, currently, nobody even came in close. Our players need to practice their shooting skills much more. Kobe Bryant practices his shooting at least 2,000 times everyday (amazing) during the NBA off seasons. We need to hire a shooting coach, I suggest a South Korean shooting coach would be good enough. Our so called professional players need to re-learn the art of outside perimeter shooting.

Besides the 4 can you add up some more ?

I think we need the best shooting coach there is...the assistant coach of the San Antonio Spurs,Chip Engelland.

If the our RP senior men's team is serious about future competitions, they should be preparing by now...have the best pros and amateur players on the land try out for the team. Those players who want to be naturalized should have their necessary documents by now.The SBP should decide who would be coaching the next RP team so they could have early preparations.I hope we could have an RP team A and team B.

BAP may have been dropped officially but there are still people/politicians who are just lurking on the sidelines and trying to take over SBP saying they wanted to help basketball when we all know what they are really up to..

If our basketball has one solid and unified leadership from the start maybe we didn't suffer the fate we had in tokushima..we should not give basketball to leaders having personal interests..

We all know we have some of the best players in the region, right?we know we could win against powerhouse countries in asia and that is not impossible. it's just a matter of putting the pieces together.it's just a matter of tapping those talents and mold them into one, and that i could say is the job of our leaders, not just the SBP but the major leagues in the country (PBA,PBL etc..)..there should have been programs that could help us lead into our basketball dreams..what's wrong is that we are just preparing heavily if there are major FIBA tournaments and there our major adversary is time..

i hope i made myself clear,pre:D :D :D

agree..we should make use of the time..:D

Preparations

I think early preparations has been the Philippine's waterloo since God knows when..I hope they could tap some players atleast for practice of some sort even if the real competition is on 2009 or 2010 atleast we have a pool of players ready for something.Atleast invite some amateur players (PBL,Collegiate,U-18)in a basketball camp abroad.like Junmar Fajardo,Greg Slaughter and Norberto Torres on a big man's camp maybe in the states or in Australia or Invite some skill coaches and shooting coaches for the potential guards.I hope we got some killer drills like the Greek national team does:rolleyes: .

What I'm worried about

What I'm worried about

I think Team Philippines will loose 3 of it's key players...Asi Taulava, Jimmy Alapag and Danny Seigle..the coaching staff should be thinking of who replaces who..we would certainly miss Asi's post presence both on offense and defense,Jimmy's speed and leadership and Seigle's Height(for a wingman) and scoring(outside shooting). Not to mention their international experience.

PBA should somehow loosen up the eligibility requirements for acquiring or accepting players born outside of the country or players born in the country but to foreign parents. perhaps they can accept players who's great grandfather is having filipino roots. but the screening will still be tough. the evaluation will still be very strict. who knows, we can find a player who's great grandfather/mother or grandfather/mother is a filipino.

in that way we could invite more competitive and athletic player to play in our league..that would somehow increase the level of play of our locals..
