Considered the most prestigious of all the international tennis tournaments, Wimbledon is the longest-running tennis tournament in the world, Named after the neighborhood in which the tournament has been held since 1877, every match has been played on the outdoor grass courts at the All England Club in Wimbledon, London.

Less commonly known as The Championships, the 2019 Wimbledon will be the 133rd edition of the popular tennis competition. Going into this year’s Wimbledon, Novak Djokovic (Serbia) and Angelique Kerber (Germany) look to defend their singles titles against a field of 127 opponents.

That’s right, there’s 128 players that make up both the Men’s and Women’s Wimbledon tournaments. That’s a lot of matches to be played for sure, but 128 isn’t an arbitrary number in that it allows for the tournament, once seeded and matched up, to easily progress through the next rounds of play. What that means is it’s a 128 team (player) single elimination bracket as you’ll see below:

There’s a lot of matches to be played in Wimbledon which means if you want to be able to fully-read the bracket as you fill it out, you’ll have to download two brackets if you’d like to view it in popular bracket layout – landscape.

With 128 players, each stage of Wimbledon will eliminate half of the opponents. Starting with 128 players which is then cut down to a 64 player tournament. From there the bracket is cut in half again into 32 players, down to 16 players to 8 players all the way down until there’s one single player remaining — those players in 2018 were Djokovic and Kerber.

Specifically for the 2019 tournament, the main competition is set to kick off on Monday July 1st, 2019 and completing on Sunday July 14th, 2019.

The Prestigious Wimbledon Championships

As mentioned previously, The Championships at Wimbledon are perhaps the most well-known and highly-regarded of all of the four Grand Slam tennis tournaments.

This makes winning the Wimbledon more important (in some tennis critics eyes) than the other three Grand Slam competitions Australian Open, the US Open, and the recently-completed French Open. Those that consider the oldest tennis tournament the most-prestigious has a list of names that include six-time winner Roger Federer and defending champion Djokovic. Tennis great Martina Navratilova, 9-time winner, once said she watched Wimbledon when she was a small child and knew that someday, she would be there.
