The Athens 2004 Olympics will feature dozens of international basketball stars competing for the basketball's ultimate prize: the Olympic Gold Medal.
During the 2002 World Basketball Championships in heartland of the United States, the US team laden with NBA All-Stars was upset, finishing in 6th place. Yugoslavia won the gold, Argentina the silver, and Germany the bronze. Fans of basketball in the US got their first looks at Yao Ming and Manu Ginobili who have since stormed into the NBA. But Americans also got a chance to see the brilliant basketball that is being played all over the globe; players who could easily be in the NBA but have chosen to play in Europe and elsewhere.
What do the Athens 2004 Olympics hold for basketball this year? Intense competition, dynamic players, national pride, and the future gold medalists are just some of the great aspects of basketball that world will experience this summer.
