New York was without star and leading scorer, Carmelo Anthony, but still defeated the defending champions by draining 18 three-point shots. No Return Date for Wall Yet-John Wall has missed every regular season game so far with a fracture in his left patella and the Washington Wizards have certainly missed him, as they are off to a league worst 2-13 start. That’s pretty bad news, but unfortunately for the Wizards, there’s more. The initial diagnosis gave Wall eight weeks of recovery time, but that was 10 weeks ago. Now, there is no timetable for his return from what could be a season-long injury (Sporting News).
David Stern Approves Hornets Renaming Team-We found out last week that NBA commissioner David Stern really doesn’t like it when a team rests its star players for a highly-anticipated game, but what he does like, apparently, is the new name New Orleans has chosen for its franchise, the Pelicans. Stern recently told New Orleans reporters that he won’t take any action to prevent owner Tom Benson from proceeding with his plan to change the name (Sports Illustrated).
Rodman Must Pay $500,000 in Owed Child Support-Former NBA star Dennis Rodman was found in contempt of court this week in a civil case against his ex-wife. He was ordered by the judge to pay $500,000 in back child support and may face jail time if he doesn’t cough up the dough. Rodman performed more than 100 hours of community service earlier this year after being found guilty of four counts of contempt, which also stemmed from his failure to make child support payments (ESPN).
Wallace Fined $5,000 for Flopping-Gerald Wallace became the second player and the second Brooklyn Net to be fined for flopping under the league’s new rule. He committed the flop against LeBron James durin Saturday’s game and will have to pay a $5,000 fine, as it is his second offense (Fox Sports).
Pau Gasol Will Miss Game Against Thunder-Pau Gasol will miss his third consecutive game tonight with knee tendinitis, as the Lakers take on the Thunder.
