After rough season, Ilgauskas joins LeBron in Miami

There’s going to be some bad blood when the Cleveland Cavs and Miami Heat meet for the first time during the 2010-11 NBA season.

Another Cleveland Cav, Zydrunas Ilgauskas, is jumping ship and will be joining LeBron James as a member of a revamped Miami Heat squad.

“LeBron gets a lot of the credit for this one,” Dwyane Wade said.

“As we continue to shape our roster, we have filled a key position with the addition of Zydrunas,” Heat president Pat Riley said in a release. “He is a two-time All-Star, a proven rebounder, and a great shot blocker. His place in NBA history is already clear, and we are pleased to be able to add a seasoned veteran of his caliber to our roster.”

The 7-3 center is Cleveland’s all-time leading rebounder and shot blocker, having spent his entire 12 year career as a Cleveland Cav. However, Z’s last season could be characterized as rocky at best.

First, the former NBA all-star center was forced to give up his starting role when the Cavs brought in Shaquille O’Neal during the 2009 off-season.

In November, Ilgauskas was set to play his 724th game to become the most-tenured player in Cleveland Cavs history when coach Mike Brown inexplicably sat him. Big Z registered his first DNP of the season.

The usually relaxed Ilgauskas was obviously hurt by the move.

Then in mid-February 2010, Ilgauskas was traded away to the Washington Wizards for Antwan Jamison. Ilgauskas was part of mini-controversy as he re-joined Cleveland after clearing waivers two weeks later.

No doubt all these happenings were part of Big Z’s decision to move on after 12 seasons in Cleveland.
