Denver Nugget’s Balkman to play for Puerto Rico?

Puerto Rico could count on Renaldo Balkman for the World Championship in late August.

The Denver Nuggets’ power forward is being targeted by the Puerto Rican federation given his Boricua ancestry and according to president Carlos Beltrán, the necessary documents have been gathered and his eligibility is clear.

It’s still unknown if the 25-year-old will accept the invitation, although his close family and looking forward to see Balkman with the national team jersey.

Balkman is playing his fourth season in the NBA and started his professional career with the New York Knicks. He had his best season last year, averaging 5.0 points and 2.8 rebounds per game. This year he played only 13 regular season games.

Puerto Rico is in group C of the World Championships of Basketball, along with Ivory Coast, China, Turkey, Russia, Greece, and is set to kick off in August.
