Ten games into the season Brittney GrinerBrittney Griner pulls down one of her 13 rebounds as she recorded the College's first triple-double against Oral Roberts. might not be dunking as much as we anticipated, but she is definitely living up to the hype.

Last night against Oral Roberts, the 6-8 center recorded Baylor’s first triple-double with a dominant performance; Griner put up a career-high 34 points, added 13 rebounds, and a Big-12 conference record 11 blocked shots as Baylor blew out Oral Roberts 101-76.

The Freshman phenom played 36 minutes and shot 12-20 from the floor, three of those misses came on dunk attempts.

It wasn’t all Griner though as her teammate almost had a triple-double of her own – Melissa Jones came up with 15 points, nine rebounds and nine steals.

“Those kids are big-time players,” Baylor coach Kim Mulkey said of Jones and Griner. “There are so many adjectives to describe these two, but I can tell you this, I’m a blessed coach.”

Griner has been named the Big-12 Freshman of the week three times, including the most recent honor on December 14th.

Earlier this season, Griner put down a drop-step slam dunk in her fourth college game, since then Griner hasn’t dunked in five games – but not from a lack of trying – Griner has come close or has missed dunk attempts at least a couple times a game.

She is averaging 18.7 points, 8.7 rebounds, and an amazing 6.1 blocks per game. Griner has a 88″ (7’4″) wing span and has already recorded four games with 8 blocks or more.

After losing their opening game to Tennessee, the Baylor Lady Bears have won nine straight and are ranked #5 in the country according to ESPN/USAToday.
