Blake Griffin, the #1 overall pick by the Los Angeles Clippers in the 2009 NBA Draft won’t be suiting up for what would have been his first NBA game against Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers tonight.

In the Clippers final preseason game Monday night, Griffin injured himself after a spectacular, high-flying, rim-rattling jam in the third quarter.

When the 6-10 Griffin landed, the momentum from his amazing dunk broke his kneecap. Officially, an MRI found a stress fracture of his left patella.

The injury could keep the exciting rookie-of-the-year front-runner out 6-8 weeks, or roughly a quarter of the regular season, so as to rehabilitate fully.

The 20-year old former-Oklahoma star averaged 13.7 points and 8.1 rebounds in the preseason.

Blake runs the break, takes a pass a shovel pass, and takes off from inside the free-throw line. Shortly after takeoff, Griffin somehow propels a little higher before coming down hard with a one-handed ram as Peja Stojakovic watches helplessly.
