David Stern: NBA teams in Europe very likely
Speaking with the press, NBA’s commissioner David Stern believes it’s inevitable that NBA franchises land in Europe.
“There’s some good possibility over the course of many years, that if there’s appropriate arena development in Europe, there could be actual NBA franchises in Europe.” Stern said.
“That’s the way we see the development of basketball in the world.”
The NBA and the Euroleague already partner to play several friendly preseason games. On Tuesday night, the Phoenix Suns defeat Partizan Belgrade 111-80 in the 2009 Euroleague American Tour.
Recently, Mikhail Prokhorov, a Russian billionaire that owns stake in Euroleague club CSKA, bought a majority share of the New Jersey Nets.
Don’t be surprised when Stern and the NBA see a good fit across the Atlantic, that they’ll reach into their deep pockets to do the same in Europe, Asia, and Latin America – laying claim to their part of basketball’s continued globalization.
The only regular NBA game ever played outside of North America was in Japan in the early 1990s.

That would be worst day for a world basketball ever. In that day money would go to the first place and game to a second.
