Former NBA coach Eric Musselman finishes Russian tour

After turning down a coaching job with Russian club Spartak in July, Eric Musselman was invited back by the team for a four-day spain in which the former NBA coach will host a clinic for local coaches as well as observing a two-day tournament in Saint Petersburg.

“European basketball always has been very intriguing to me.” Musselman said.

Musselman who has coached the Golden State Warriors and Sacramento Kings, is the son of legendary head coach Bill Musselman, who coached for nearly 35 years in high school, the NCAA, ABA, CBA, and with NBA; with the Cleveland Cavs and Minnesota Timberwolves.

This isn’t the only news with ties to Russia and the NBA, as Russian billionaire Mikhail Prokhorov recently purchased a majority stake in the New Jersey Nets in part to eventually expose Russian basketball coaches to the way the NBA scouts, trains, and develops players.

Over the past year, Musselman has completed a number of international clinics throughout the world  including Athens, Greece, Sao Paulo, Brazil, and Beijing, China as part of Adidas Nation.

“I really enjoy meeting and learning from basketball coaches from around the world,” Musselman told Interbasket. “I also love teaching the American brand of basketball.”
