Coming into the tournament, Spain was the odds-on favorites, but no one was certain how Greece was going to perform without their veteran backcourt of Dmitrios Diamantidis and Theodoros Papaloukas.
Spain struggled mightily to start off the tournament, upset by Serbia and barely making it into the quarterfinals while Greece won their first four games handily before two setbacks against Russia and France.
Now the two rivals will meet today to determine who will move on to the Eurobasket finals and play the winner of Serbia-Slovenia. Coming into the game, Spain is led by Pau Gasol‘s 18.9 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks, followed by Juan Carlos Navarro’s 14.1 points and Rudy Fernández’s 13.7 points.
Vasileios Spanoulis is the top-scorer for Greece at 16.7 points and nearly 5 assists per match. The 6-4 guard has also hit 51.6% from distance; connecting on 16 of 31 three point attempts. Ioannis Bourousis leads the team in rebounds at 7.3 points and adding 10.5 points per game.
