Greece shocked by Russia in Day Five of Eurobasket

Greece ran into a determined Russian squad who only has three returning players from their 2007 Eurobasket championship team.

With the game tied at 48-48 at the beginning of the fourth quarter, Sergey Monya would score nine consecutive points. Monya hit 3 three-pointers to give Russia a 57-48 lead.

Greece would race back to within two points with a minute and a half remaining, but the Russians eventually came out on top 68-65, after Georgios Printezis potential game-tying three was off the mark.

Monya would finish the game with 15 points, 10 of which came in the fourth quarter. Kelly McCarty would also score 15 points for Russia. who will advance to the next round with their third win.

Greece was led by Sofoklis Schortsianitis 13 points and Vasileios Spanoulis’ 12 points. Greece has won 4 games and will also move onto the next round.
