On September 1st, the Minnesota Timberwolves watched as their first round draft pick, Ricky Rubio, was introduced by FC Barcelona, a Spanish club that signed Rubio to a six year contract.
“It has taken a long time but in the end, I have arrived to a great team, from a Spanish standard to a European one and now I am going to enjoy it,” said Rubio, “When the season ended I put my name in the draft with the intention of going to the NBA,” Rubio said. “(The NBA) was not to be.”
“Now I have arrived at a club where I hope to win many titles.”
With Rubio’s floppy, Pistol-Pete hairdo, cheesy contrived pics, and willingness to be involved; the images look more like a publicity shot for a teenage heart throb in the role of a basketball player for his upcoming movie than an actual official introduction of a professional basketball player.
“It´s a great enthusiasm to know that you can go to the NBA but my thoughts are on Regal Barca and giving it my all.” Though locked up for six years, Rubio has a clause that allows him to jump to the NBA in two seasons.
