Patrick Mills breaks foot; to miss NBA summer league
Patrick Mills of Australia, one of the Portland Trailblzers’ 2009 NBA draft picks, broke his foot during an NBA summer league practice and will be forced to sit out the entire summer league.
The former St. Mary’s college star fractured the fifth metatarsal in his right foot. The 20-year old Mills was the 55th pick in the NBA Draft; he dropped roughly 20 picks after being expected to be selected in thelate first round.
“You never want to see a player get injured, but it is especially heart wrenching to see a young man go down on his first day of camp,” said Trail Blazers GM Kevin Pritchard. “We’ll do everything we can to help Patty get back on track to realize his NBA future.”
Mills had missed four weeks at the end of his final college season with a broken hand. The severity of the foot injury and timetable for return is unknown.
