(Discuss/follow the COCABA basketball Championships)
This regional-qualifying tournament is the first of four possible steps that national teams have to place in qualifying for the 2012 Olympics in London. The eight teams participating in this tournament are hosts México, Costa Rica, Honduras, El Salvador, Panama, Guatemala, Belize, and Nicaragua.
The teams that place first, second or third place in COCABA will move onto the 2010 Centrobasket Tournament which is a qualifier for the 2011 FIBA Americas Championship. Depending on their succeses in the latter tournaments, they could qualify for the 2012 Olympics.
Already, five teams have qualified for the 2010 Centrobasket Tournament - Puerto Rico, US Virgin Islands, Jamaica, British Virgin Islands and Cuba.
The COCABA championships changed the date of the original tournament. This event was scheduled to be played August 5-9 but because of some organizational issues, the Central American Basketball Confederation decided to allow the organizing committee to move the tournament’s start date back five days to August 10th, 2009.

The challenge to some of the Belizean players’ eligibility is ludicrous. They obviously fear us; ask Nicaragua…

Yeah, Belize just blew pass Nicaragua, 98-64. Blow out! Mexicans are afraid of us.

Go team Belize….I feel bad for the Mexicans organisers….they fear little Belize. If only we could get our act together in all other sports discipline then they would not be so surprised when we put our best teams forward. Who’s your daddy now Guatemala? This is not Bertie Chimilio football team that you are facing…this is team Belize!

The issue of Belize’s eligibility is in poor taste. FIBA’s rules should be clear. How can FIBA say ok we’ll allow Palacio & Carcamo to play then say the other 5 or 6 are not eligible 15 minutes before tip-off. It makes it quite obvious that we are being attacked from the very nations around us afraid of the butt kicking they are going to get at our hands. FIBA you lack class.

FIBA already hand picked who they wanted to advance in the 09 COCABA competition…. But now they are faced with a real challenge… they did not expect that Belize would send its POWERHOUSE(s) to GET THE JOB DONE, now they (FIBA & associates) are scared in their pants…. GO BELIZE GO…BUS’ DEH SHUT…& TAKE THEM TO COURT… RESPECT BELIZE!

Go Belize, Go! We made it this far and now Mexico is afraid of us. Who is FIBA to decide our national identity. This is Belize we have a constitution just like other nations. Go Belize & we are proud of our national team BELIZE

It is a downright shame and disgrace to see FIBA’s outright bias against the Belize Team that has Mexico shaking with fear. It is obvious that FIBA has planned for Mexico, Panama and Costa Rica to emarge from the COCABA Tournament. It is clear that the Belize Team is the most talented and the disqualification of Belize by FIBA is both riduculous and disgraceful. Al the players on the team are born Belizeans or Belizeans by descent via Belizean Parents. Obviously the Belize Team has spoiled the fraud being orchestrated by FIBA. FIBA wake up and recognize Belize!
