2007-08 All-NBA Teams include Nowitzki, Nash, Yao, & Manu
The All-NBA Teams were announced for the 2007-08 season and four international players Dirk Nowitzki, Steve Nash, Yao Ming, and Manu Ginobili were included on the second and third teams.
Ginobili and Yao were included on the third team at the expense of a couple Denver Nuggets. The Nugs had the next three highest vote totals (Allen Iverson, Carmelo Anthony, Marcus Camby), but were completely shut out when the teams were announced.
Manu received 123 votes, beating out Allen Iverson by seven votes (116) for the final guard spot on the third team. Yao Ming played only 55 games this season, missing most of those games due to an injury, and beat out Marcus Camby by only 12 votes (70-59) for the center position.
The first team couldn’t have been any other five in the league as Kevin Garnett is key to the resurgent best-record in the NBA Boston Celtics, LeBron James had another fantastic season carrying the Cleveland Cavs, and Dwight Howard anchored the middle for the 3rd best record in the East Orlando Magic.
In the backcourt was the NBA’s MVP Kobe Bryant, who received the only unanimous nomination (635). And the point guard was Chris Paul, floor leader extraordinaire whom really blew up this year in leading the New Orleans to a franchise best 56 wins.
As a sidenote, I don’t know how Chris Paul wasn’t an unanimous first-team decision, the voter(s) that did not vote for him should immediately have their voting rights revoked and be removed from the NBA’s panel of voters. Seriously.
Other international players receiving votes were Pau Gasol of the Lakers (5) and Tony Parker of the Spurs received one vote.
