2009 SEABA Championships: RP downs Malaysia 100-73
The 2009 SEABA Championships are underway in Medan, Indonesia (discuss).
As expected, the tournament favorites and defending champions got off to a great start as the Republic of the Philippines defeating Malaysia 100-73. The two competitors have dominated the SEABA gold medals since the inception of the tournament.
The basketball-crazed Philippines is going for a repeat this year – which would be their sixth championship in the tournament’s short eight year history. Malaysia has won the remaining two trophies (1994, 2005).
In the other completed game, Indonesia defeated Singapore 79-65. Host nation Indonesia is looking for their first SEABA championship after placing second in the last two tournaments. Losing out to the Philippines in 2007 and Malaysia in 2005.
You can follow and discuss the games in our SEABA thread in our forum.
The eight annual tournament occurs every two years and will continue play through Wednesday, June 10th.
