Home smart speakers are the next big technology that will further blur the lines between our real lives and technology. With Google Home, Amazon’s Echo series, and Apple’s new HomePod, the competition is fierce.

Now the NBA is jumping into the Home Assistant game by creating their own official Alexa Skill for Amazon’s Echo devices.

Google and Amazon’s devices already understand requests for team schedules and scores, but with this new Amazon Skill, one can dig deeper if they’d like. Here’s what Engadget had to say about the new Skill:

For the upcoming NBA season though, the virtual assistant will serve up more detailed information on every team in the league. All 30 teams will have their own Alexa Skills, which means you can ask for things like the date of the next home game, who your teams plays on a specific date, if they’re winning, stats leaders, standings and the latest team news.

All you have to do is activate the skill for your favorite teams by saying “Alexa, enable Golden State Warriors” in your Amazon Echo. From there, you can initiate a request for information by asking: “Alexa, ask the Detroit Pistons…”

Here’s the description from the NBA Skills page:

The official NBA skill is your guide to NBA Playoffs and Finals 2017. Whether you’re browsing by team or across the league, use this skill to check upcoming schedules, get live scores and summaries of the previous night’s action, learn current match ups and find out how to watch every game.

The NBA is the the first professional sports league to make every team’s information available through Alexa in this way. None of this should come as a surprise as the league has been on the cutting edge with the way they handle and manipulate player and team data. It’s safe to say that the NBA is by far the most-advanced league in the United States when it comes to integrating new technologies into the game.
