Primeiro d’Agosto wins 2009 African Cup Championship

1º de Agosto claimed the African trophy for the second time in a row, having now five titles, the most by any team in the tournament.
APR was third by beating Mazembe 92-80.

2009 FIBA Africa Champions CupPrimeiro de Agosto claimed the 2009 FIBA African Cup championship trophy for the second time in a row by defeating Petro Luanda 88-64 Tuesday night.

Primeiro d’Agosto used a strong fourth quarter, outscoring fellow Angolan club Luanda by 15 points, 26-11, to repeat as African club champions.

Carlos Almeida led team Agosto with 24 points, Armando Costa added 18 points, and Joaquim Gomes recorded a double-double with 15 points and 16 rebounds.

Petro Luanda was paced by Mario Porter’s 18 points and 9 rebounds while Angolan national team star Eduardo Mingas added 12 points and 6 rebounds.

Also known as 1º de Agosto, the African club now has a total of five championship titles, the most by any team in the tournament.  The APR Lions won third place by beating TP Mazembe 92-80. (Thanks to Basket-Spot)
