Far removed from his superstar days as a Philadelphia 76er, the 34-year old star guard played just three games with the Grizzlies before taking a leave of absence from the team after complaining several times about how he disliked coming off the bench.
“I’m not a bench player. I’m not a sixth man. And that’s that.” Iverson said after Memphis lost to Sacramento.
Memphis General Manager Chris Wallace released a statement: “The Grizzlies and Allen Iverson have come to a mutual agreement that because of personal matters that forced him to leave the team on November 7, Allen will step away from the game at this time, allowing him to focus on those matters.”
Iverson originally announced through Twitter on September 9th, that he was going to join the Memphis Grizzlies. In three games, Iverson averaged 12.3 points and 3.7 assists in 22 minutes per game with Memphis.
