After signing Josh Childress away from the Atlanta Hawks during last year’s offseason, Greek outfit Olympiakos is at it again, signing Houston Rocket’s sub Von Wafer to a contract worth $5 million over 2 years.

With Tracy McGrady returning, and the signing of Trevor Ariza, Wafer was going to be hard-pressed to get minutes with the Rockets this coming season.  So the move made sense.

Tired of Looking
Wafer has publicly mentioned that he was stressed out with being an NBA free agent and was looking forward to signing with a team, but the move to Greece was somewhat of a surprise with the Kncks and Clippers interested in him.

“This free agency has been real difficult for me to deal with. It’s just real stressful. I’m just ready for it to be over.” Wafer told FOX 26, a local Houston TV station.

“At the same I want to get a situation that’s best for me and my family. Just because I’m tired and upset doesn’t mean I go out and do something. I’ve got to be patient.”

Before signing the 24-year old swingman, rumors about Olympiakos trying to grab another NBA player dominated the NBA-Europe news, with the Greek club reportedly interested in Allen Iverson, Nate Robinson, Linas Kleiza, and Ramon Sessions.

In his one and only season with the Rockets, the 6-5, 210lb small forward averaged career highs in points (9.7), rebounds (1.8), assists (1.1), and steals (0.6).

His contract includes an opt-out clause after the first year, in case he wants to return to the NBA, where Wafer played for five NBA teams during his four-year career. He started with the Los Angeles Lakers, and subsequently played with the Los Angeles Clippers, Denver Nuggets, Portland Trail Blazers, and then Houston last season.
