Wolves & Wizards involved in 5-player trade?

The moves continue as teams look to trade up/down in the 2009 NBA Draft.

Looks like the Minnesota Timberwolves are going to pick fifth and sixth in this year’s draft.  The Washington Wizards are going to send their pick to Minnsota in a five-player deal.

According to some reports, Minnesota is giving up Mike Miller and Randy Foye to the Washington Wizards, in exchange for two international players; Lithuanian forward Darius Songaila and Ukranian center Oleksiy Pecherov, Etan Thomas and the fifth draft pick.

After the dust clears, the Timberwolves will have moved up one spot in Thursday’s draft, picking fifth and sixth.  With the move, Minnesota may be hoping to grab Ricky Rubio, if he slips, or a scorer to help tandem with Al Jefferson.

The Wolves also pick up three players in the move – Darius Songaila, who just finished his third season in Washington.  The 31-year old forward from Lithuania received solid minutes off the bench and produced 7.4 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 1.2 assists for the Wizrads.  If the trade goes through, Minnesota will be Darius’ fourth NBA team.

The 7-0 Pecherov has played his entire two-year career in Washington, barely playing, and averaging 3.6 points in both years.  Etan Thomas was likely to be moved this summer anyways, as he and starting Wizards center Brendan Haywood have clashed several times over this past season.

Washington gains a great shooter in Mike Miller and a developing playmaker in fourth year guard Randy Foye.

Edit: I made the mistake thinking that the Wolves and Wizards were switching selections; they obviously are not.  My apologies for any confusion. -editor
