Hedo Turkoglu’s 25 points push Magic over Celtics
This is what the Orlando Magic have been waiting for.
After six games of general inconsistency and under-performance, Hedo Turkoglu couldn’t have picked a better time to have his best game and severely outplaying his Celtic counterpart Paul Pierce.
He notched 25 points, 12 assists and 5 rebounds in game seven of the Eastern Conference semifinals leading his Orlando Magic over the Boston Celtics 101-82.
This is the first time the Magic have made the Eastern Conference Finals since Shaquille O’Neal and Penny Hardaway led them there back in 1996.
Previous to game seven, Turkoglu was averaging 14.8 points, 4.2 assists, and 2.5 rebounds – all well below his regular season averages.
Hedo also shot 9-12 from the field, including 4-5 from three point land, and Turkoglu’s point, rebound and assist totals were all series highs.
“We never lose confidence of what we can do – not myself, not anybody.” said Turkoglu.
The Magic hit 13 three-pointers in the game and used a huge fourth quarter to keep the game out of reach.
Orlando center Dwight Howard added 12 points, 16 rebounds and 5 blocks for the Magic. Ray Allen found his way out of a shooting slump with 23 points, but it wasn’t enough for the defending NBA champions.
Turkoglu will face an even tougher small forward than Paul Pierce in their next series. The Orlando Magic come up against NBA MVP LeBron James and the league’s best team, the Cleveland Cavaliers.
