The 2014 NBA Draft consisted of two rounds and was held at the Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn, New York on June 26th, 2014. During the draft, each NBA team took turns picking eligible international and amateur United States college players. The Cleveland Cavaliers were able to beat the odds this year and earn the first pick in the 2014 NBA Draft Lottery and took Andrew Wiggins with the first overall pick. The Charlotte Bobcats took part in the draft under their “New/Old” brand, the Charlotte Hornets. The draft concluded with the final overall pick, Cory Jefferson being picked.

2014 NBA Draft Highlights

The 2014 NBA Draft was broadcast on ESPN this year, and included a number of prospects who are believed to be potential NBA All Stars. These players include Jabari Parker, Andrew Wiggins, Joel Embiid, Julius Randle, T.J. Warren, Marcus Smart, Noah Vonleh, Garry Harris, Tyler Ennis, and Aaron Gorden. Some of the better known foreign players that took part in this year’s draft include Croatian Dario Šarić, and Aussie, Dante Exum.

Other highlights from the draft include it being the first held by new NBA Commissioner, Adam Silver, and deputy commissioner, Mark Tatum. When the Cavs took Andrew Wiggins with the number one overall pick, he became only the second Canadian to be so honored. This was also the first time that a NBA D-League player was

picked in the first round (P.J. Hairston), and the first time that there were multiple D-League players picked in the same NBA Draft. Additionally, this was the first time that a player from Cape Verde was selected in the draft, Walter Tavares. Finally, despite all of the injury news, Joel Embiid did not take a deep dive in the draft…only falling to #3 and was picked by the Philadelphia 76ers.
