The NBA season ended less than two months ago, but let the anticipation for the 2013-2014 season officially begin!
The schedule for the upcoming season was released Tuesday evening. The first official game of the season will take place on October 29th, between the Orlando Magic and the Indiana Pacers. But the game everyone will have their eye on will be the Miami Heat opening up their title defense against Derrick Rose and the Chicago Bulls. It will be the first game for the returning Rose, who suffered a torn ACL in April of 2012. The third game of opening night will pit the two LA teams facing each other, as the Doc Rivers-led Clippers face the Lakers. There is some intrigue to that game as well with all of the talks about Kobe Bryant’s speedy recovery. Could we see two star players return from serious injuries on one night?
The next night will see the debut of several old faces in new places. Dwight Howard will make his debut with the Houston Rockets when they host the Charlotte Bobcats. Also, Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and the new-look Brooklyn Nets will face off against the improved Cleveland Cavaliers.
On Christmas, there will be five marquee games played. The Nets will host the Bulls at noon on ESPN. Moving over to ABC after that game, the Knicks will square off with the Thunder at 2:30 p.m., in a match up between two of the leagues best scorers in Carmelo Anthony and Kevin Durant. That game will be followed by the game of the day, as the Lakers play host to the Heat at 5 p.m. The nightcap games will move back to ESPN, as the Spurs host the Rockets at 8 p.m., and the Warriors host the Clippers at 10:30 p.m. All times are Eastern.
