Greivis Vasquez named ACC Player of the Week
Greivis Vasquez has been rewarded once again for his historic performance this past Saturday; Vasquez has been honored with ACC player of the Week.
The 6-6 guard from Caracas, Venezuela led his Maryland squad over #3 North Carolina 88-85 in overtime. He registered a spectacular triple-double (35 points (13-24 FG), 11 rebounds, 10 assists) including hitting several clutch shots. His triple double was the first in over two decades for a Maryland player, and his 35 points marked the highest point total ever by an ACC player recording a triple-double.
For the week, the junior guard has averaged 23.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 5.5 assists, but the POW honor is no doubt based on his performance against North Carolina because his other performance in the “other” game, a blowout 93-64 loss at the hands of Clemson, Vasquez was far from spectacular (12 points, 2 rebounds, 1 assist, 5 turnovers).
Vasquez has now received conference player of the week honors twice this year and four times over his career. The Maryland Terrapins will be at home tonight, attempting to upset #7 Duke.
