LeBron James’ Streak Ends, Heat Top Thunder-LeBron James’ record-setting streak of six straight games with 30 or more points and 60% field goal shooting came to an end on Thursday against the Thunder, but the Heat managed to pull out the win 110-100 in a re-match from last year’s NBA Finals. James actually came incredibly close to extending the streak, as he scored 39 points and shot 58% from the field, missing two shots in the final minutes (ESPN).
Jerry Buss Hospitalized for Cancer Treatment-Lakers owner Jerry Buss was admitted to the intensive care unit of a Los Angeles area hospital on Thursday and is undergoing treatment for cancer. Although there has been no official prognosis released by medical staff or the hospital, RadarOnline is reporting that the Lakers’ head man may not have much time left and that the cancer is worsening. The L.A. Times confirmed that he has received visitors and that he has had the cancer for some time, but had chosen not to disclose it publicly (Los Angeles Times, RadarOnline).
Derrick Rose May Miss Entire 2012-2013 Season-Initial reports and recovery timetables had Bulls star guard Derrick Rose slated to return sometime late this season, but apparently recovery from the surgery that repaired his torn ACL from last season has been slower than expected. On Monday, Rose said he was still “far away” from returning and that he would not play until he was “110 percent.” Although he is unsure when he might come back, he did say he was taking things slow and added: “I don’t mind missing this year” (Bleacher Report).
Hedo Turkoglu Suspended 20 Games for Failed Steroids Test-Orlando Magic forward Hedo Turkoglu was suspended 20 games by the NBA for recently testing positive for steroids. Turkoglu claims he unknowingly took an illegal substance as offered by his trainer to help recover from a shoulder injury over the summer.
