Hornets Will Officially Change Name to Pelicans Next Season-As you’ve probably already heard, the New Orleans Hornets were planning on changing their team nickname to the Pelicans. Well, now it’s official, barring any denial from the NBA, but commissioner David Stern has already said he would approve any name the team selects. The new name will take effect next season (ESPN).
Heat to Visit White House on Monday-The Miami Heat will make the annual NBA champions White House visit on Monday and will meet President Barack Obama. Some of the players will be making the trip for the second time, including Dwyane Wade, who went when the Heat won the title in 2006 and Shane Battier, who visited the President after Duke won the national title in 2001 (Fox Sports).

Dwight Howard Cleared to Play Friday vs Jazz-After missing the second half of Wednesday’s game against the Grizzlies with a sore shoulder, Dwight Howard has been cleared by doctors to play Friday night against the Utah Jazz. Howard originally suffered a torn labrum on Jan. 4 and has missed three games due to shoulder problems, but is in the clear for now (Sporting News).
