Bernard it won't be waived that easily... FIBA has clearly stated that they want to see drastic changes being done in our league and most importantly in which there is no political intervention at all in basketball and so far this issue hasn't been solved.

As long as politics is influencing basketball and decisions being taken are related to politics the ban will continue

Good win yesterday for Riyadi over Sagesse in a close game.

Riyadi edge Sagesse in top-of-the-table clash
February 14, 2014 09:39 PM By Dany Abboud
          The Daily Star

BEIRUT: Riyadi moved to the top of the standings Friday after they beat archrivals Sagesse 77-71 in a thrilling match in round four of the Lebanese Basketball League at Ghazir. In-form Elie Stephan set the tone from the outset, scoring four consecutive points to edge the home side ahead 7-2 after three minutes. Riyadi seemed overawed by the huge crowd, but veteran power forward Ismael Ahmad’s neat drive kept his side in contention.

However, Sagesse took advantage of Loren Woods vacating the inside to defend versatile American center Chris Daniels, as Elie Rustom found his way to the basket to restore superiority at the end of the first 17-12.

Riyadi refused to let up early though and thanks to 23-year-old shooting guard Amir Saoud, the visitors managed to find their way back in the match. His 3-pointer gave them a narrow advantage 19-17 two minutes into the second.

But sparked by a jubilant crowd, Sagesse went on a 6-0 run thanks to American duo Charles Thomas and Chris Daniels to lead 30-28. Riyadi eventually led 33-32 at the turn.

The battle of 3-pointers caught fire in the third quarter as both teams opened it with two triples each as Riyadi led 41-38.

Both teams continued to exchange 3-pointers, first Ahmad Ibrahim giving Riyadi a 48-42 lead, before Stephan answered with another triple to close the gap to 55-54.

Things continued to heat up, with Daniels hitting two free throws to reclaim the lead for the hosts 56-55, and Rustom followed suit with another two free throws to confirm his side’s 57-55 lead into the fourth.

Saoud opened the fourth period with a corner triple to give Riyadi a one-point lead, but Rustom continued his slashing drives, going all the way to the lane to score a layup with the score still swinging.

But another triple from Ali Mahmoud, followed by a tipped basket by Woods, gave Riyadi a 63-59 lead with seven minutes to go.

Saoud hit a midrange jumper to extend their lead to six, with Sagesse’s head coach Fouad Abu Chakra forced to call a timeout.

With time running down in the fourth, Riyadi’s lead was cut to just two. And Thomas leveled the score at 65 all with a fade away jumper.

With less than three minutes left, Sagesse stole the lead 68-67 thanks to a timely 3-pointer by Thomas.

But Woods slammed two consecutive dunks to give his side a valuable 71-68 lead with one minute left.

And turnovers continued to slip into Sagesse’s game, as Stephan lost the ball before Ismael Ahmad killed the match with a three to give his side a six-point lead with 38 seconds to go.

Play was halted for around five minutes after fans hurled objects onto the court.

Riyadi eventually secured a valuable win 77-71, to go top of the table at 4-0, while Sagesse are second with 3-1, level with Amchit and Byblos.

Round four also saw victories for Mouttahed, Amchit, Byblos and Champville.

Meanwhile, Byblos will look to maintain their strong start when they visit their Jbeil neighbors Bejjeh at Central Saturday in the opening match of round five.

Byblos are enjoying a solid start to their quest to reach the final four for the first time, as they currently lie in fourth place at 3-1.

Bejjeh, however, are still winless after four games, although they showed promise against Homenetmen, where they only lost after overtime 82-84, before coming up short 68-77 against Champville.

Saturday also sees Champville visiting Hoops at Murr stadium.

Three exciting matches take place Sunday, as Amchit take on Mouttahed at Tripoli, while Sagesse visit Homenetmen at Mezher Stadium while Riyadi host Tadamon.

They changed their foreign players... They now have Ashton Gibbs (188-G-90) & Bilal Dixon (206-F-90)

Hoops beat Champville in a surprising result today... Russel Robinson had a horrible game and I believe his days with Champville are very close to end soon...

French NT player Ali Traore (208-PF-85) officially signed with Amchit! He will arrive to Lebanon tonight... His signing has surprised the French media who aren't very familiar with the Lebanese basketball league even though they know about our national team since we faced them twice in both the 2006 and 2010 World Championships

Quite a few teams have sent official complaints to the Lebanese federation regarding the refs.
