I know that Miao Li Jie signed a training camp contract with the Sacramento Monarchs on January 14 but for Chen Nan there isn't any information posted about her in the WNBA website yet.

China NT blown out by WNBA team

Connecticut cleared its bench (including "practice" players) and still slaughtered the Chinese team. 46-20 rebounding edge

This Chinese team is very young and missing all 5 starters from last year's Asian Games. Out of the 12 players in the US, none was on the 2008 Olympic team and only 3 were subs at the 2010 World Championship. The rest were rookies including Gao Song who's eligible for the U19 Games this year. That said, I wonder if there's anything to be done to address the rebounding situation. China actually has a couple of really tall girls (Wei Wei 206cm/6'9'', Huang Hongpin 196cm/6'5'', both listed 1989 and had been on the NT before) but couldn't get any rebounds. Wei Wei can shoot the jumpers, but is skinny, unathletic and softer than cotton. Huang is big and somewhat athletic but seems to be a step slower at everything. Both of them need to get boxing lessons because this is a waste of talent.

The good news is the prettiest girl in Chinese Basketball (Zhao Shuang) looks like a lock for the NT in the future. Needs to put on some weight and we'll have the next Sui Feifei (the previous "pretty NT star" who was also a skinny small forward.)

Zhao Shuang is a first time selection to the NT training camp but many have high hopes of her which is more than her looks. This chick competes really hard, only problem is she's extremely frail.

It's interesting. I've loosely followed the Chinese Women's NT before but probably had not watched more than 2 games. It's great to have you to talk to, Carlo, but social media made the difference. As it turns out, in the cyber world female players are much easier to talk to than male players, largely due to the fact they have far less fans. I originally just wanted to know more about life in Chinese professional basketball but after knowing enough names, I was interested enough to watch WCBA games for the first time in my life. Turns out the games weren’t bad, especially the Finals this year which wasn't decided until literally the last 10 seconds of the last possible game. As a result I can tell you a lot about this current Chinese NT, despite the fact that they are all very young.

                        ------------------------------------------------

Zhao Shuang scored a team-high 15pts as China lost to Washington Mystics 67-72 in a scrimmage. Ji Yanyan and Yang Banban each scored 9. Reportedly they were only down by 3 in the final minute and all 11 players saw floor time. Crystal Langhorne led the Mystics with 16. Unfortunately there is no official box score, but there is a video.

Within the first 30 seconds I see Huang Hongpin (#18) receives a nice dish from Zhao Shuang (#11), and while towering over her opponents gets completely stuffed. SMH... Yang Banban (#4) the PG still dribbles way too much.

The team will play the Chicago Sky today in a few hours.

Sky ahead by more than 30 at the beginning of last quarter, Fowles, Yanyan and Prince in double digit scoring.

Sky 84 China 45, with 18pts by Fowles in less than 15' (9/11 shooting!). Ji Yanyan has been excellent as well, finishing with 17pts (and 7/10 FG). Among the Sky rookies, Carolyn Swords had 13pts and 8reb.

Watching the Mystics-China highlights I saw very good plays and scoring by the Chinese girls, but in some actions Mystics were imo a bit loose in defense.

Zhao Shuang and the Chinese National Team

I went to Mohegan Sun Casino on Thursday May 19, 2011 to watch the Chinese National Team play the Connecticut Sun. #11 Zhao Shuang is gorgeous. She looks like an adorable lost puppy in her loose and baggy Chinese uniform...kinda looks like she's dragging a blanket when she runs like Linus from Peanuts. I have a pic that I took of her. Also the ladies were incredibly nice. I met the team after the game.

24 year old 6'5" #16 Xu Nuo started at center and can hit the outside three.
6'9" #19 Wei Wei came off of the bench at center.

On a side note I noticed that they were warming up, shooting around and doing drills about an hour before the Connecticut Sun appeared on the court and that most of them bowed twice in different directions when they were being substituted and checking out of the game.
