isn't he already playing in Zobel? I remember watching him play there last year, he's really tall, but slim.

Arnold was told to sit out last NCAA season as he was failing some of his subjects. There was a certain average grade requirement by La Salle officials before a student-athlete is allowed to play in the NCAA. But he was able to suit-up for Zobel in some games outside the NCAA Junior tourney. To be precise he is officially a Filipino-Dutch but his dad has some German blood and his family stayed for awhile in Australia at Sydney to be exact but their Family is now staying in the Philippines and he is now studying at Alabang, Muntinlupa in De La Salle Zobel. He was being considered for the Youth Team but since he had academic deficiences he was told by La Salle and the National Basketball Training Center officials to concentrate on his studies.
He was said to have improved his grades in his 3rd year in High School but the school officials are still weighing things if Arnold can maintain his grades and play varsity at the same time, they are not yet thinking about the national team as it might be to much for the boy. Eric Altamirano told me that they would again look on the kid for the National Pool but that still depends on Arnold's school standing.

yup ..... thanks for the correction.

Just hope Arnold becomes serious with his studies or we might not see him play in the UAAP and the NCAA.

                        The Arnold Van Opstal Thread

I think the 6'7" High School player Arnold Van Opstal deserves his own thread, if only to be able to keep track of his developments. I hope the mods will allow this.

MANILA, Philippines – Six-foot-seven Arnold Vonopstal scored 24 points to lead De La Salle Zobel to a 95-45 win Tuesday against a hapless St. Jude College squad in the FCBL Freego Jeans Cup at the Buddhacare Gym in Quezon City.

La Salle’s starting five of Vonopstal, Gwayne Capacio, Nico Elorde, Luigi dela Paz and Jonathan Cauiguig proved too much for St. Jude. The Little Archers ended the first half with a 47-15 lead.

Vonopstal was again named best player of the game, topscoring for La Salle while Capacio added 13 points.

La Salle now holds as 4-3 win-loss slate, coming off a recent defeat courtesy of the San Beda Red Cubs. Ateneo de Manila University, meanwhile, remains unbeaten in the tournament, toting a 7-0 record.

Meanwhile, defending champion Letran Squires likewise scored a landslide win against the Far Eastern U Baby Tamaraws, 78-49. The Squires were led by Jeffrey Ongteco, who scored 18 points.

Letran now holds a 4-2 win-loss slate while FEU dropped further to 2-7 and stand no chance of advancing to the quarterfinal round, which starts May 23.
