Confirmed. As per "amdgc82" of the Gameface forums:

    ZONE 4 (Cagayan de Oro)

    Nov 14: Game Results
    5:30-7:00 pm - FEU vs. ADZ -> FEU (105) - ADZ (55)
    7:00-8:30 pm - USC vs. CU -> CU (87) - USC (84)

Too bad for Cebu basketball. They got a lot of respect after USJ-R nearly beat Letran, but now USC losing to an unknown school like Capitol University? Almost unbelievable.

emel Rowe played for USC in CDO. USC lost in OT to Capitol U, 87-84 after leading by as much as 11 points in regulation. Their only chance now is they have to win big over UM(which is supposed to be a better team than CU) and than UM wins by the smallest margin possible over CU(less than 2 points).

Team statistician texted me last night it was USC's 21 turnovers in the game that hurt.

why do we have to say basketball in cebu is not good just because the Capitol University Stallions beat the University of San Carlos Warriors, can't we be happy that Mindanao or specifically Cagayan de Oro Basketball has improved.

People forget Cagayan de Oro is where brothers Jojo and Danny Lastimosa came from. There are many upcoming basketball stars which came from CDO, two have played in the last U18 Youth team namely. Joseph Marata, though the Maratas are from Iligan, Joseph’s mom is from Cagayan de Oro. He actually studied in Cagayan de Oro prior to his transfer to Manila and even played for St. Mary’s School during his High School Freshman year. Philip Paredes of Sacred Heart of Jesus Montessori School. More popularly known as “Papot” in the local basketball scene, Paredes is only 15 years old and stands 6’6”.

          • The though one of the purposes of the PCCL is to finally show a true national collegiate champion and show which school basketball program is the best, The greater objective is to improve all schools and all leagues nationwide.

Here what Coach Lipa said to several people while in Ormoc:

Coach Joe Lipa advised the local officials to improve on their sports program if they want to keep their local talents from being recruited by Manila based institutions. Coach Lipa also said that he has some suggestions on how Collegiate Leagues outside the Metro can have their own recruitment program despite their limited resources.
The key to success for our future international competitions is to have an improved grassroots program wherein all over the country the kids would enjoy a good basketball program without the need to relocate to Manila and Cebu.

USC crushed UM with a 30 point margin....
Note: Emel Rowe for me is Sakuragi not Rukawa... does he know how to play basketball??

              XU - 71 and FEU - 77

Note: It was a close game and almost a big setback for FEU. FEU was trailing the whole game until the last 3 minutes of the game the score was 66 - 61 in favor of XU. Then the defense of FEU prevail forcing XU to commit turnovers and missed their shots. it was even close during last 30 seconds when the score was 71- 73 for FEU until free throws decide the game...

Erram a LEGIT 6'7 but too skinny have 4 pts and 5 blocks... hes like japet aguilar when japet was only a freshman in Ateneo... One insider in XU bench is saying that coach Glen Capacio is trying to get this guy...

I was hoping to watch this game, unfortunately I had to do overtime. A lot of locals were actually expecting FEU to win this game convincingly. Thanks for the update.

                • it was a well fought game and im very happy coz my alma mater show its best... During the XU 75th. ADMU will come and play against XU and if they will not bring the likes of baclao, husseini, and chiu i think XU will win the game...

Outside shooting of XU was very great... making 6 3pointers during the first quarter...

                  • I'm happy with the result. XU being competitive enough is a good sign for me. Congratulations to FEU. Does this mean FEU is already qualified for the sweet 16?

                    • it was 32 points per USC statistician. USC center dislocated a finger in the game. If CU wins tomorrow over UM, then that means they are marching into the Sweet 16, if they lose to UM, its going to be the quotient system at work.

He had a number of good games in CeSAFI 2008:

                          17 pts, 5 rebs, 3 asts, 2/2 3PFG vs UV(elims)
                          11 pts, 4 rebs, 2 asts, 2 stls vs CIT(elims)
                          10 pts, 10 rebs, 1 ast, 1 stl vs DBTC(quarterfinals)
                          11 pts, 12 rebs vs UV(Game 2 Semifinals)

USC played some 13 games(no stats available for the last 3 games for the battle for third)

Rowe was also named to the CeSAFI 2008 All-Star Mythical 5 as he teamed up with Greg Slaughter to lead the Light Team over Fajardo's Dark Squad

Cortes is USC's workhorse, at 6'0 and playing center, he compensates for his lack of heft and height with great hustle plays, a nose for the ball and finesse around the basket. Cortes is USC's 2nd leading scorer(10.1 ppg in CeSAFI 2008) after 5'10 SG Giovanni Padillo's 11.9 ppg(Sam Hermosa also averaged 10.1) and USC's 2nd leading rebounder(6.8) after Llanto. Cortes' also leads USC in total field goal percentage(51%) while Rowe leads USC in 3 point accuracy(50%)

                          • mindanao, and visayas always have produced good players. in fact, this is the reason that manila-based universities started recruiting visayan players when schools like University of the Visayas whipped manila schools.

if there was no recruiting of visayan players by manila universities, I can assure people that manila schools will have a very rough time.

to show my point, way back in the 1940s to the 1950s for example, ateneo de manila pirated 2 cagayan de oro players, Chole Gaston who was known as the "Cagayan Cyclone" for his blinding speed that he stole the ball from visiting Harlem globetrotters. Later Gaston died after his acrobatic moves in a plane because he was a philippine air force pilot too, and another player was Ramchand "bombay" motoomull from Gingoog, the machine-gun scorer on the basketball court who died later from gunfire at a shootout in manila. he liked to pack a gun and...i won't say anymore because the guy is dead.

Actually Chole Gaston is from negros but because he studied at ateneo de cagayan(Xavier university), his nickname was the Cagayan Cyclone.

Francisco Vestil another legendary player from the 40s is from University of Visayas before he was pirated by UST.

The legendary Mumars. father and son players are from Bohol.

legendary Moro Lorenzo of Ateneo(two time NCAA MVP) is from Zamboanga, Caloy 'the big difference " Loyzaga is from Mindoro. Ramon Fernandez is from Leyte, Rosalio Martirez from cebu, and Paking Rabat the "sultan of rebounds" is from Davao etc etc

Anyone who wants to replace a coach because his dwarf team keeps losing against bigger teams is wishing for a miracle and should get a magician. A more practical solution is to get reinforcements unless one is content to wait a few more years in the hope that the dwarf players will grow wings and fly over their defenders. PBA reinforcements will not guarantee a championship, but it will guarantee close losses which is enough to make me happy.

CU Shocks Cebu's San Carlos In OT

                                By Lynde Salgados

THEY might be the underdog in the six-team field, but the Capitol University (CU) showed a lot of heart on Friday's nail-biting tussle with Cebu's San Carlos University at Xavier University gym in Cagayan de Oro City.

Just a wildcard entry in the ongoing Philippine Collegiate Champions League, the CU Stallions made it sure upset will mark the PCCL Zone 4 qualifier's opening day action by overpowering the SCU Webmasters in overtime, 87-84.

What's your take on the Mindanao crisis? Discuss views with other readers

Top favorite Far Eastern University (still locking horns with host Xavier University Crusaders as of presstime) fashioned out a lop-sided 105-55 win over Ateneo Zamboanga in the opener.

CU's Stephen Go stood as the nightmare for the Cebuanos' heart-breaking debut when he sizzled for a game-high 39 points that mattered the most in overcoming the Stallions' twin-digit deficit in the early goings.

"Go was at his best scoring element as knocking off those big numbers is a thing that you would always take pride to remember," enthused XU's assistant coach Arvin Martinez.

"Showing big fighting heart is a quality that CU coach Jonas Molawan can be proud of his intrepid Stallions. They really worked hard all-night long to earn the victory," added XU athletics director Gerardo "Boboy" Sabal.

The Webmasters, who finished third in Cebu's Cesafi, controlled the pace most of the way, leading by as much as 11 points. Complementing Go's gigantic effort that broke the game wide-open in the fourth quarter, Estroga made a clutch basket with time ticking away to force overtime.

It was a big Stallions show in the extension period as the foursome of Go, Estroga, Baja and Tinoy continued to run the offense from outside for a complete reversal of fortune.
